Ways to help a boil burst?!

Question: My fiance has got a boil, i think it might be down to an ingrown hair. I have told him to have a hot bath and hope that this helps to burst it. have you any other ideas?

He is refusing to go to the doctors at this point. So if you could help me out i would be most grateful.

Cotton wool soaked in hot water then applied to the boil can sometimes help draw the pus. Don't stick anything into the boil because unless it's sterile it will make things a whole lot worse. If it hasn't discharged within the next few days he will have to go to the doctor - it's a very common problem and the doc has seen it a thousand times before. First the doc will try antibiotics, then if they don't work (which they usually do) he may have to have it surgically drained depending on how bad it is. Surely a moment of embarrassment is worth getting rid of the discomfort?

I had one once and just went medieval on it: get a sewing needle, sterilize it with a flame (match), and just penetrate into the pus and squeeze it out. It helps to soften the boil first in warm water.

Don't stick anything into it whatever you do! That will just lead to infection.
Magnesium Sulphate used to be used as a drawing ointment for boils, but I am unsure as to whether you can get it any more. He really does need to go and see his doctor. It is the only safe way to deal with it.

Cool boiled water, cotton wool and apple cider vinegar.

Hot baths or any type of heat will help it to come to a head, if it hasn't already. Once it comes to a head, it might burst on its own, but if it doesn't, he needs to go to the doctor and have it drained. It's full of pus and nastiness and that can cause complications-- when I had a boil, I ignored it and ended up with a 103 degree fever and a ridiculous amount of pain.

Hot compresses (not so hot that you cause a burn) will hopefully bring it to a head and it will burst on it's own. Don't squeeze it as this could burst the boil and spread the infection into the surrounding healthy tissues. Also you can go to the pharmacy and ask for the black drawing salve, this will help bring the boil to a head. Antibiotics and pain meds may be needed while waiting for it to burst and if all else fails the doctor can drain it and relieve the pressure and get the healing process going.
