Feeling weak... going on a long time... any help?!

Question: Hey everyone. I've been a wreak for a long time. It all started back in April 07. 2 weeks after my daughter was born. At first I just noticed chest pain. This scared me because my brother has Marfan's. I finally got some tests done in Nov 07-Feb 08. Echo, EKG, X-Ray, Blood Work (NORMAL), CT scan. All came back 100% positive. Not my heart. Figured out costocondritus. But since Nov 07 I've also been having weakness almost constantly, dizzy, legs heavy, arms and legs pins and needles. It is SCARING me. My DR can't seem to figure it out. Any suggestions out there? Thanks so much!

Hi there....hey, I looked up your costocondritus as you spelled it. No such thing. However, a spelling such as this (Costochondritis) is real. However it has to do with an inflammation of the cartilage that joins your ribs to the breastbone. Don't know where that came up. If the doctor can't figure it out, please don't look for a disease that fits your symptoms and figure you have it. This can be dangerous.

OK, this has been going on for quite some time. You did not mention your pregnancy and delivery. Since your symptoms began when she was born, I would have to ask you how your pregnancy, delivery and first few months went after delivery.

It is quite normal to be completely wiped out physically after an especially taxing pregnancy, labor and delivery. Then after the birth some women are not able to have any live in help. Getting little rest and not eating right because of a demanding infant with perhaps colic, having nights/days mixed up, etc can wear you down physically.

The chest pain can be caused by something as simple as esophagitis and most doctors do not even consider this. The esophagus (the tube that runs from your throat to your stomach) can become inflamed through months and sometimes years of on/off heartburn, reflux acid when you lay down, etc. Maybe you've been popping Maalox or Pepcid. with only temporary relief. You will ALWAYS "feel" something in your chest. A pressure, a heartbeat, oftentimes "irregular" feeling" I call it esophageal spasms. They mimic the heartbeat. The inside lining of your esophagus has been burned with acid so many times it can be actually raw, and left untreated for years can actually turn into a serious condition.

Today, Nexium (that little purple pill) actually heals the esophagus as it stops excess acid. It is a miracle drug and you would feel the difference within 24 hours.

The stress of thinking it is your heart or something as serious or worse puts your body into a "panic" situation which accentuates any of the minor symptoms. Suddenly when you are tired you are aware of the heaviness of your legs, arms, any small pain suddenly has taken on a whole new meaning and it just HAS to be serious!!!! I've been there and done that. I know what you feel.! I felt it!! It's called PANIC.

Actually, go to you doctor and talk to him about esophagitis. He may want to run a scope down your throat and look around or he may just order some Nexium and give it a try to see how you do. It could mean the difference between night and day.

You are stressing yourself into some serious health issues. I have seen it time and again in my patients, and, actually I went through the same thing which sent me to the ER in the middle of the night just knowing I was having a heart attack. My blood pressure shot up to 235/117. I was scared to death and, even though I am a nurse, I didn't realize I was doing it to myself. Esophagitis had going on for over 4 years since the death of my dear husband and all the stress surrounding that and starting a new life. I've been living on Pepcid, which stops acid but doesn't heal the esophagus.

Anyway....just to let you know if your lungs, heart & blood work are A-ok, please believe me, you are HEALTHY. You just have to believe it.

Make sure you are getting exercise, are eating healthy, taking a very good multivitamin , maybe a B-complex vitamin tablet as well (good for the nerves). Get that Nexium ASAP!! 30 day's supply can't hurt you even if he doesn't scope you, and it just may help 100%. You'll feel great! The weight will have been lifted! If he won't help you, go to a gastroenterologist. He WILL scope you . There's more to your chest besides the obvious.

Good luck
I am an RN

Maybe its mono

Have the DR. check for Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis. Maybe diabetic poor just low on vitamins. Really hard to say without other tests.

Ask for a second opinion. Ask to see a neurologist. Be proactive. Are you eating ok? Are you sleeping ok?? It could be a lot of different things from a muscular problem to a neurological problem to a psychosomatic problem but the medical causes do still need to be worked up and diagnosed or ruled out for your own sanity sake.

Good luck!

are you anemic
