Why does seven-year-old keep having "accidents" (bowel movement) on hi!

Question: I'm really worried. A child in my class is lactose intolerant, so at home his Mom only has soy milk and at school I see to it that he gets Lactaid.

For the last six months, he's only had one or two accidents.

However, for the last two weeks, he's been having accidents daily.

I told his Mom he's probably sneaking milk, but she told me that he's really ashamed and wants to stop having accidents, so he purposely stays away from milk. He barely drinks the soy.

He also doesn't eat cheese anymore.

She took him to the doctor Friday. Today is Tuesday and he still hasn't come back.

Soy milk has a lot of acids, so the stomach can not handle it ,if you have a sensitive stomach. Change your milk, try homogenized, slim milk, lactaid.

he may just be ashamed at his intolerance. he could be stressed if he is being mocked, so he may be really nervous and uncomfortable. if you can try and get in contact with the parent to try and find out what is happening. try not to worry to much it may just be a simple infection as well.

from what i studied in paediatrics, i'd say he has what is called encopresis (fecal soiling). it is usually secondary to constipation leading to overflow of softer feces. the presence of a hardened bolus of feces causes the rectum to adapt to the distension which is why the child is unaware of the need to defecate when the rectum contracts. if this isn't the case, he might have toilet anxieties eg because the act of defecation is associated with pain from anal pathology or due to the constipation itself. often it's a cycle because the child will feel ashamed or fears being punished so they deny having a problem and subconsciously avoid the toilet. other times, this is done as an act of defiance towards parents or teachers
