Insomnia can be a disorder of it's own, or it can by a symptom of many other physical and emotional disorders. Occasional insomnia is normal for everyone and is usually related to stress, fatigue, worry, illness, etc. Persistent insomnia or insomnia accompanied by other symptoms should be an alert. If you have frequent insomnia or feel that you have other possible symptoms of a physical or psychological disorder, you should make an appointment with your doctor.
If it's just occasional insomnia, you can try some remedies. Relaxing for an hour or so before you go to bed, taking a warm bath, having a small snack, or reading a book can help. Chamomile tea and Valerian root are herbal remedies that have helped some people with occasional insomnia. Most importantly, don't do any strenuous activity or exercise before bed, and don't leave the TV or radio on as it can be a distraction.
Hope this helps!

you may be stressed out.... some cannibus would help....

depression can cause insomnia

Stress, thats the number 1 cause of insomnia. Anxiety, depression. If this is just a sudden onset of insomnia try relaxation therapy..... soft music, dim lights make the room cool, lavender smells, or lavender soap. Also if you want try benadryl for a few nights its not addicting and can maybe get you back on a normal sleeping schedule

Big subject.
Can indicate anxiety, depression or even psychiatric disorder - but it's important to bear in mind sleep requirements can vary hugely - from 4 - 10 hours each cycle (and our cycles are often out of synch with daytime demands.) Usually we catch up - one way or the other - because we have to.
Experiments were conducted years ago - with volunteers - in caves - no access to sunrise/sunset - which showed our 'body clocks' can be quite different to the 24 hour days we are most commonly ruled by.
Isn't a health problem as such - so long as we catch up - as and when. I seem to remember we can survive up to 6 weeks without food/water - but 72 hours is about as long as we can go without SOME sleep - before getting a bit gaga.
(Sleep deprivation is therefore a rather quick means of torture - without leaving visible signs thereof)
