Tobacco cessation and insomnia?!

Question: I quit smoking three weeks ago. I was taking Chanitx until about two weeks ago. Cigs are done, gone, not an issue any more.

*But now* I can't sleep. It's been about eight days now that every night, about an hour after I fall asleep (if I actually manage to fall asleep), I wake up and realize I am WIDE awake. Getting up, reading, etc., doesn't help. My mind is just going a mile a minute, can't slow it down, can't shut it up. Finally around 5 or 6 am I fall asleep. I'm getting maybe 4 hours of rest a night, which is just not cutting it; I am a total bee-ach without sleep lol.

My question: how long can this tobacco cessation induced insomnia last?
And, are there any home remedies I can take/do to help me sleep (I don't/won't take sleeping pills).

Honestly, it's been over a year since I quit (without any medication) and I still have trouble falling asleep, but I can now stay asleep when I do fall asleep. I think I started noticing a change for the better (with the insomnia) at around 3 or 4 months. It's been a while, so I don't remember exactly but I do know that it happens to a lot of us. It will pass. Just remember that everyone is a little different, so it may be shorter for you.

I tried everything, including sleeping pills which didn't work for me. I just recommend some relaxation techniques... I meditate sometimes. Also, a hot bubble bath before bed often helped too.

Congrats on your quit!

It might be the nicotine withdrawal, but those symptoms are usually gone after about 3 days. I would put my money on it being the Chantix withdrawal that's keeping you awake. If it lasts more than another week or so, I'd call your doctor.

try pot ,you don't need much of today's stronger strains,an you'll get deep dreamless sleep,if you don't get arrested.

I wouldn't use sleeping pills. But a mild anti-anxiety medication is helping me right now - Lorazepam 1mg at bed time. It usually takes an hour to have a subtle effect so I can still do my bedtime reading. Its quite a big deal getting to sleep as some nights I'd be awake till 4 or 6 in the morning.

This quite damaging to my health and makes my driving inattentive and dangerous. I quit smoking 20 years ago and it took about a year cold turkey. I felt so much better and made my first born very happy. This really didn't affect my sleep. A world of stress works on me.
