Will ibuprofen reduce the redness of a sunburn?!

Question: My toddler got sunburned today (one of those fluke sunny days and the last thing you think of is sunblock) and it was obviously hurting him, so I gave him some ibuprofen, and less than an hour later the redness was gone. So I was just curious.

I've never heard of it, but I know it reduces swelling and inflamation, so maybe it does reduce the appearance by getting rid of the inflamation. I'm glad he feels better!

no it will reduce the pain/hurting

Not really, its just for pain

yes it will

Its probably a coincidence. Ibuprofen helps with pain relief, but it is unable to change colour of your skin. Perhaps the sunburn wasn't that bad. Sometimes when I get burned then come inside, it wears down a bit. Maybe for future, you could just keep a bottle of sunscreen in your nappy bag, then for those flukey days, voila!!

it will not reduce the redness of the sunburn but it will reduce the pain by a lot. whenever i get unbent i take ibuprofen and use cooling lotion that you can buy a walmart.

if it is for children and doctors okay
however it might help the pain but not the redness
try cool packs on it

Ibuprofen cannot take away a sunburn. It is used for pain and fever. A cool aloe gel can make the burn feel a little better.

Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory so it could have reduced the swelling that occurs with a sunburn. It won't actually take the burn away though. Try giving him a bath with apple cider vinegar and then applying lots of 99-100% aloe vera gel. (best from whole foods stores, Trader Joes, or other Natural Foods places, less addatives) The vinegar will take the sting away and the aloe of course is soothing and promotes healing.

I just remembered this week to restock suncreen as my boys came in with red cheeks, too. Fresh sunscreen each year is best. Don't use last years. If you don't have any sunscreen, just rub some diaper ointment on his face. Doesn't have to be a lot and it usually rubs in clear (if you don't use too much). The zinc in it will save him from the sun.

It will reduce the swelling and pain that goes with the sunburn, but I doubt it will reduce the redness

No dumbass.
