Bruised swollen big toe after an ironing board fell on it...?!

Question: Yes.. last night there was a small ironing board hanging on the door and when I opened it, it fell directly onto the joint of my big toe (I wasn't wearing any shoes) and hurt(s) a LOT. I elevated and iced it for twenty minutes right after. Today I'm doing the same. The toe is swollen and bruised at the joint. It hurts the most when I (accidentally) bend the toe.

Is this something I can wait a while to see the doctor if it doesn't get better, or should I go see her promptly?

Thanks.

Swelling, discoloration and burning is a big sign that it may be fractured/broken! Check out this site for more symptoms http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topi...

If it does not go down for a day or two...you should go see a doctor!!

Good luck!

Hum. It could be broken. Get it checked out if it hurts reaalyyyy bad.

Show your mom and tell her you think somethings wrong and go to the doctor! STAY OFF YOUR FOOT TOO

If in doubt, you should ALWAYS get it checked out. No one on here is ever going to suggest that you shouldn't see a doctor if you're injured. That is foolish, and is actually illegal. Unless the answerer, of course, is a licensed physician.
