NO. Don't feel bad; I'm a children's nurse, and you'd be surprised at how many parents also believe this. I'll enter a hospital room and take a child's temperature and find that it's 102. I'll give the kid tylenol and replace the 3 warm, thick, fuzzy blankets with which the parents had covered up the child with ONE lighter one, only to return 20 minutes later to find the thick blankets BACK on the child and the parent very upset at me for "freezing the child to death" by only having one blanket on a feverish child. SWADDLING UP HOLDS THE HEAT IN. IT WILL ALSO INCREASE YOUR FEVER, NOT DECREASE IT. The best way to lower your fever is tylenol or motrin. However, your doses of motrin (which is also called ibuprofen--any brand name of ibuprofen should do) should be at least 6 hours apart and your doses of tylenol should be at least 4 hours apart. You also shouldn't take more than 4,000 mg of tylenol a day (too much is bad for your poor little liver).

ha are you kiddin me? There's no such thing as a children's nurse, maybe a Pediatric Nurse, like my wife. And they do not use Tylenol and Motrin as liberal as stated. Report It

  • Yes, the purpose of your body sweating is to lower the temp. You cannot sweat out a cold because it is a VIRAL infection and must run it's course. But the side effects such as fever or high tempreture can be reduced my sweating. That shows that your body's immune system is in overdrive and attempting to self regulate your temp back to a 98.6F.

Take Oscillococcinum... they have it wal Wal-Mart. It' instantly reduces fever. It's homeopathic and completey safer than Acetaminophen which is the root ingredient in Tylenol.
