Old Microwave Dangerous?!


Question: I have a microwave that's about 15 years old. It seems to heat food OK but I'm wondering if it's releasing dangerous radiation throughout my kitchen..

Do microwaves (especially older models) give off dangerous radiation?
If so, how far do they travel? We have a small kitchen so we're usually within a couple of meters of the microwave when it's running.

I'm getting paranoid every time I run the microwave. Do they make them better now than they used to? Stick with this one or buy a new model?

no radiation was ever produced by microwave ovens....the name microwave tells you what they produce...microwaves... and all it does is make water molecules vibrates and heat up food....dry food doesn't heat up...don't worry

Dr. L has no idea what he is talking about. The problem is he has never had anything less then 2 years old and if he does have something that is older then 2 years old he is not a good Dr.

Yes you can get massive amounts of radiation from microwave and the chances you and your family have cancer are pretty high.

Leaky doors are the danger. If the door doesn't seal real good the radiation leaks. There is a tester you can buy or rent that will check it. You can see them at the link below. You turn the oven on and hold the detector around the edges of the door. If there is a leak it will turn an alarm light on.

Dr. L got the answer wrong. Microwave is radiation.

I've heard that there is radiation...electromagnetic radiation that is only allowed to give off 2 kilowatts of radiation for it's lifetime.
If it leaks it goes about 2 inches from microwave.

The FDA has monitored the safety of microwaves since 1971.
They say it is safe.

So you can keep old model if still working.
