It all depends on what type of MRI you are having and what symptoms you are experiencing. For many brain MRIs, we use an IV contrast. If we are trying to determine the characteristics of a lump in your body (neck nodule, for example), contrast is often used. If we are scanning your spine, and you have had surgery on that area of your spine, we will often give you IV contrast.

If you are having a MRI of a joint (knee, shoulder), usually you will not have an injection. BUT, sometimes, we do MR Arthrograms, and the contrast agent is injected directly into your joint.

You may want to call the facility where you are scheduled for your MRI and ask them if you are receiving contrast. They are the only people who can give you an accurate answer.

"Some MRI examinations may require the patient to swallow contrast material or receive an injection of contrast into the bloodstream. The radiologist or technologist may ask if you have allergies of any kind such as hay fever, hives, allergic asthma, or to food or drugs. However, the contrast material used for an MRI exam, called gadolinium, does not contain iodine and is less likely to cause an allergic reaction."

No... no drugs, shots, or anything.

You'll be fine. Doesnt hurt one bit.

yes. its an extract from a vegetable. Its injected to identify the colour.

It depends on the study and the body part they are trying to visualize. But, yes, many of them include an injection of gadolinium. It us used to distiguish between normal and abnormal parts of the body and brain. If you have questions about whether your MRI will require an injection, you can call the radiology center where it you are having it done, they can tell you.
