Is my pain imagined?!

Question: Is it possible to imagine pain? I am always worried to some extent something is wrong with my reproductive system. I pay attention to my body and for some reason I often feel ovarian pain - not severe at all, just awareness. According to my doctor everything is normal and ok - I have regular periods etc. Is it possible that I imagine this "pain" because of my fixation on my reproductive health?

I think it is. I'm a hypochondriac and I also have anxiety, and I find I do this to myself a lot. Thinking about some imagined disease (or hearing about one), and I feel a dull pain wherever the 'disease' may be.

If your doctor says you're okay, try to relax and think about other things. You might find that if you concentrate on something else, you'll realize the pain isn't there anymore. However, if the pain persists and/or gets worse, you might want to get a second opinion.

From my experiences, though, I'd say you're creating the pain yourself. The brain is a pretty powerful thing. :3

yes you can that is why they have placebos

it is possible to imagine pain and especially in your situation if your paying attention to something you may start to get a feeling in them like pain just try not thinking about it when it happens and see if it goes away. also if the doctors says every thing is normal you should be fine.

Absolutely, and I agree with the previous poster. Did you know placebos have been known to "cure" over half of the patients who take them?
People have been known to die of whatever disease they were terrified of, but found that disease never existed at their autopsy.
There's a story of a blind-folded man who thought he was bleeding to death and died from "blood loss". In fact, it was only a stream of warm water trickling down his arm.

Take hold of your mind! And don't be afraid. :)

yes it could be but i would still see another doctor just to put your mind at rest it cant do any harm and yuo met feel better in yourself.

It is a reality that "some" people can imagine pain, but usually only when they are fixated in a negative way(like craving the attention from people that a painful diagnosis would bring.) ONLY YOU know your body and what is and feels normal to you. Only a small percentage of ailments are detected by the common, generic, time wasting tests most doctors run on a patient. Dont ever let anyone convince you that the pain is in your head until you have tried every test imaginable especially with such an important/fragile thing as your reproductive system. For years I had the most painful severe burning feeling of fire in my limbs and no doctor would test further than skin deep and tried to convince me I was imagining, making up, and even just drug seeking. After 3 years of endless tests, A new doctor tested my limbs for a disease which is highly uncommon in my age(im only 25) but i had all the symptoms. Sure enough I had severe RSD/CRPS in my limbs(my left arms the worst) It's a disease that attacks and destroys the neurological system and sadly for me all the time wasted by doctors not believing me allowed the disease to attack and filter into my central nervous system and for the rest of my life I am now disabled, my nerves are destroyed and do not move my arms/legs correctly, i have no use of my left arm, can stand no longer than 10 minutes, and will never again play the basketball I was given a collage scholarship for or draw/paint the countless pieces I had before(Im left handed). Im only 25 and I would give anything for just one of those first doctors to believe me and check all the sources for my pain, SO PLEASE dont brush it off as "your overactive imagination" Tests do take time and money, but if there is something internally wrong, you cant put a price on your HEALTH! Please keep this in mind, and best of luck to you!
