Why can't I falll asleep easily?!

Question: My mom, dad and brother all fall asleep in 5 minutes of going to bed. It takes me at least 30 minutes of turning back and forth to fall asleep. It's bee nlike this for years and I have tried sleep pills but no good. My girlfriend can fall asleep in 30 seconds of not talking to me in bed and I wonder how people can be like that. For me, I don't know when I will ever fall asleep and I tend to keep thinking in my brain while on the bed...any suggestions???

I am the same way. It always takes me 30 minutes to fall asleep. I started saying my prayers while I am laying there, and just keep going until I fall asleep it works well and then I have also prayed for everyone.

Good luck!

there are a lot of factors involved in falling asleep. If you snack before bed this can keep you up, as will having unresolved thoughts and worries

a small change in your diet or supper time meal could help.

People who fall asleep fast are over tired and their body's are exhausted. You should be happy that your not stressing yourself out like your family.

ive been exactly the same my whole life. i think it's just a personality thing because i've tried so many things! something that helps me fall asleep is to not try to will myself into sleeping, but just start letting my mind relax and wander off on a random subject.

Everybody is different and require a different amount of hours to sleep. I can't function properly without 8 hours of sleep. My husband only needs 6 hours and says he feels the best with 6 hours. I have noticed that if I sleep too long I can't fall asleep easily that night. And when I get less than 8 I'm pretty much useless. So I've learned what my body requires. If I oversleep my 8 hours it's usually because I'm sick or had a long bad day. When I do oversleep I make it a point before I go to bed to read a book or read news off of the computer. I have to get my mind tired or otherwise I just lay in bed frustrated. Sometimes I will drank a glass of wine which helps me relax. (not condoning underage drinking, so only if your of age) But usually reading for an hour before bed tires my eyes and my mind. This seems to do the trick for me.

I think your problem is that you're not tired enough which causes your mind to just think and ramble on. Experiment with different amounts of hours of sleep to see what you best function off of and are able to easily fall asleep the next night. Like one week sleep for only six hours each night. Observe how you feel and how easily you're able to fall asleep the next night. If it's not helping then try a week of 5 hours or 8 hours according to how 6 hours made you feel. You will start to realize what amount of sleep is best for you.

Also, be aware of the amount of caffienne (sp?) and sugar before bedtime. If I drink a Pepsi before I go to bed I just lay there staring at the wall. So try to drink things that aren't full of sugar and caffienne before you go to bed. And definately don't snack too late in the evening either. I hope this helps some. Good Luck!
