This is probably caused by muscle spasms. My son had the same problem. We saw a physical medicine physician and he gave him two exercises to do:
1) Lay on your back on the floor and simply put your lower legs up onto a couch or bed. Scoot your rear end right up to it and rest your legs from the knees down on the couch. Lay that way and read a book, watch TV or listen to music for about 15-20 minutes.
2) Lay on your bed, but then scoot the entire length of your body over until half of your lower body is hanging off. Then relax the leg that is off and let gravity pull it down and stretch your back muscles. Do the same to the other side, but you'll have to put your head at the end of the bed for the other side.

My son does these exercises at least three times a week and hasn't had a problem since.

Good luck!

try talking to your doctor, you probably pulled a muscle or something. i know that hurts DX

check out webmd.com

You should get an x-ray done at a chiropractor.

i have the same problem
i swim and my back kills its prolly cuz i slouch so yea

try drinking more u could be dehydrated

why don't you see if you can go to a chiropractor? has helped me a lot. they will in some cases do accupuncture which makes you feel so much better...just my experience.

back problems can be very serious and will impact you when you get older. don't mess around, see a doctor.

Well i have that prob too.. but i guess its cuz you don't drink much water!

But i recommend you to see a doctor..

stop working out so much
send me some pictures!

You might have just slept strangely one night or lifted something heavy. Regardless, if the pain persists, you should go see your chiropractor.

prolly
but im not a doctor so what do i know
hey i got my 2 points though so i'll be ok!

Have you recently gained or lost weight rapidly? If so that might be why?

You could just be feeling sore from your work outs which just means you're getting into shape. No pain no gain. Although what do you mean by "too much"? Don't overdue it. That's not healthy. I'd see a chiropractor to be on the safe side.

well your not gonna die. you might have something outa line though. see your doctor and see if you need a chiropractor. i have a friend who's 16 who has to go the chiropractor every few months cause her back gets thrown outa wack

no, yes, maybe so, why the hell should i tell you?

GO TO A CHIROPRACTOR SOON. HE WILL HELP YOU sorry bout the caps....

sounds like a pulled muscle , remember RICE Rest Ice Compression and Elevation I had that issue alot after I worked out alot , work on your lower back muscles that helps alot

You could have bruised your tail bone....
I am assuming because you go to the gym and swim everyday that you are not overweight.....If the pain is as you say, "horrific" then I really suggest you see a doctor as soon as possible....

Well there could be a couple of things... you could be lacking potassium or magnesium if your looking at it from a nutritional stand point or not eatting enough protein for the level that you are working out.

2. You muscles could be to tight so I would do leg up the wall yoga pose. You push your rear up the base board of a wall and then put your legs up the wall with the back of your knees up the wall and stretch for a good while... then put both legs over to one side then the other (breathing and giving it time to relax)

3. Your hips could be out from working out or carrying a big back pack. You might need a chiro. to adjust you. Usually they give a cheap rate to kids.

4. You might need to rest your body for a bit.

Hope that helps you.
Peace, Stephanie

It sounds to me that you may have strained one of your lower back muscles. You should try taking a small amount of Ibuprofen because it helps with inflammation and muscle pain. Also, you should apply a heating pad. If the pain doesn't go away within a couple days, you should get to the doctor.
