Arthritis, What do i do?!

Question: I found out i had Arthritis when i was 17. I'm 21 now. Its been getting worst and worst. My knuckles swell and hurt badly, My knee joints hurt threwout the day. Expecially after heavy lifting, and my back hurts REALLY bad at night and when i wake up. My doctor prescribed me some sort of pain medican but after 6 or 7 months it was no longer working so i had to take more of it to feel any relief. I quit taking it period after a year because i dident want to become dependent on it. Is there any really way to slow it down at all or relieve the pain without pills?

Try moderate exercise and warm baths. If you were diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, you may HAVE to be on meds.

There is a pill called Mobic. It isn't a opiate. Aspirin. So even though I answered it . I didn't really answer it correctly, I gave the name of a pill. But I assume you really mean habit forming pain -pills.My mom is filled with it and that is what she takes. Heres some info from Wikipedia;

Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to relieve the symptoms of arthritis, primary dysmenorrhea, fever; and as an analgesic, especially where there is an inflammatory component. It has been developed by Boehringer-Ingelheim. It is closely related to piroxicam.

If you have RA then I would suggest finding a good rheumatologist b/c it seems like your current doc is not managing your symptoms all that well (or you may not be listening to your doc). The drugs that are important to take are the anti-inflammatory (probably indocin) and the antimetabolite (methotrexate or something ending in "ine").
Bottom line...take the drugs prescribed by the doc and if they arent working then tell him/her. If the doc doesnt respond then change docs

Depends on what type of arthritis you have. There are other than the traditional meds that you have to take to get relief also. You have to be patient in other things that work though. There is NO instant answer for such things in life. I wish there were , but it unfortunately isn't that simple or easy.

It sounds like you have juvenile arthritis to get it at 17 first. I have a form of arthritis since my mid 30's. It seemed so sudden too. It was after I had a big auto accident at that time.
I have tried different forms of treating this to make it manageable , if you want to discuss this or need more info feel free to email me and I can go over the options with you.

laying in the tanning bed a few minutes a day helps my arthritis alot
