Pain relief for an inner ear infection?!
Question: I have an inner ear infection and my doctor didnt give me any meds for pain. Today was my last day on my antibiotics. It is relatively late now and my mom is in bed. As I write this I am in tears from the excruciating pain. I dont really want to wake her up but my ear is killing me. Any suggestions. Is this ER worthy or wait it out?

If your ear still hurts after you have finished the ABX... you should be seen... I am an ER nurse...earaches are horrid... I have only had one... tremendous pain... that is why poor babies scream their heads off... they can't even tell you what hurts.... please go be seen ASAP...esp since you have been taking Advil without any effect...
Ibuprofen
Try liquid advil, 2 pills, and hot rag compresses. I know that is painful.
i was going to say tylenol but don't think that would help...hummm maybe you can go to the emergency room it could get bad or go to the walk in clinic tomorrow first thing... if not wake your mom up you have to if it really hurts.
Do you Ibuprofen? as in motrin? or you could just take tylenol...but ibuprofen would be better. but remember...in order to take a pain reliever you have to eat something with it, as my doctor said. so just eat a couple of crackers or a drink a glass of milk with it. water is not enough. and go ahead and tell your mom...it won't cause any harm! if the pain is unbearable, then call the doctor.
Try an anti-inflammatory (like Advil). Press a hot damp cloth over the affected ear and rest it there for a while. Stay AWAY from anything loud. No TV especially. If the pain doesn't lessen soon, and you are still in tears, go to an urgent care clinic if one is available, if not, I would wake up mom and get her advice.
Hot pack or blow it with a blow dryer on low heat. The pediatricians say do that for a baby with an earache.
If your ear still hurts and today was your last day on antibiotics, your antibiotics probably did not work and you should go to the doctor again. Is there an After Hours clinic that you could go to instead of the ER? I know what kind of pain you're in and I feel for you. When I had this it helped to put drops in my ear and tug at the lobe or to just let water run into your ear. If you plan on toughing it out, take some tylenol pm or something that will help you sleep and sometimes it helps to lay on the ear that hurts (unless of course you have an outer ear infection too). You poor thing ! I hope is feels better soon and that some of these remedies people have listed work for you.
If you are in that much pain I would just go ahead and wake your mother up & ask her to take you to the ER. She would not want you to suffer in pain. The ER will more than likely give you something there and then send you home with a prescription for the pain and maybe some numbing drops. Go wake your mother up, she will see that you are crying and I am sure she will not be upset with you.
