I am scared, what is going on?!

Question: First i would like to say this is kinda of a gross question, i am just worried that he is okay. I have a 4 year old son that has had a couple number "2s" with blood. He is not constipated what so ever. Today he used the toilet and had gas and a touch of sloppies to call it, it wasn't much at all. then a bit later he went again, and it was firm, but there was blood, it was very noticable, it's bright red in color. He doesn't have a temp or nothing, he just looks at me and says " i got bloody poops", he is his normal self. I give hime plenty of fruits and fiber so that is not an issue. This is kinda gross, but he poops pretty large for a little boy. I am just wondering if he might have pushed to hard and had a tear in his little bum. when he poops there is not always blood. Should i take him in and have them look at it, it's happened 2 too many times for me. any help would be appreticiated. thank you

He could have an anal tear, which would cause bleeding, and since you said he poops kinda big, for only being 4, that could be rough on his butt. Maybe he is lactose intolerant and he eats too much dairy, that could make him strain to go. Even if it doesn't constipate him, it could still bind him up to where he's straining, like I said, he is only 4 so maybe it's a hard stool.

See a doctor! Don't waste your time!

Make an appointment with your pediatrician today and have him seen. Better safe than sorry.

Take him to the doctors

The poop probably slightly damaged his anus due to the poop's enormous size? Don't worry though, this happens to most people.

Take him to the ER room. My nephew had the same problem and they gave him some antibiotics to regulate his stool. I hope all goes well for the little guy.

he most likely has hard poop that is causing tears in the lining of his anus...kinda gross, but really common in kids and adults. ask him if its hard for him to poop. if it is, the poo is probably just tearing the lining as he pushes it out. unless there is a lot of blood, this is no biggy. if he complains that it is painful to poo, there are drugs that kids can take to soften the stool which you can get from his pediatrician. otherwise, don't worry about it!

Yes he might have an anal fissure (tear). However what has he been eating? Anything red that may have caused it. Usually bright red blood isn't an emergency. If his stools are very dark black or tarry that means the blood is getting digested.
If he is eating lots of fiber he will have larger stools because fiber gives them bulk.
He shouldn't have to push he might have a hemorrhoid. I would call and make an appointment just to be sure.

Do you know if he fell pretty hard sometimes you can have internal bleeding, or he could have a bleeding ulcer.Or just a stomach disorder like IBS or internal hemmoroids. Just keep an eye on him and soaking him in a warm bath could help if there is any uncomfortable pain. You need to take him to see a stomache specialist...SOON

Has he complained that the poops hurt? If he has an anal fissure (little tear from big poops) that would hurt a bit, and it would produce bright red blood. I think to be on the safe side
you should take him in, just to make sure it's nothing serious. One time one of my kids had bloody poops and it was very scary but it turned out to be some sort of intestinal irritation that got cleared up rather easily with medication. (I was worried it was a cancer!) You are right though to ask about taking him in-- our little guys are too precious so you want to get him some help as early as possible. From my experience, he 'll be ok, but he might need medical help to clear it up, so please take him in.

The most common cause of bright red blood on the surface of stool (a.k.a. poop) is anal fissures, or cracks in the skin around the anus. These happen after passing a large or hard bowel movement, or in kids with constipation. See the link for more information and suggested remedies.

I would take him in. It is probably a little tear but I would still get it checked out. That's just the general advice for any bloody poops out there...unless you know your hemorrhoids are flaring. Your 4 year old shouldn't have hemorroids though, so, take him in.

why are you wasting time looking for an answer onthe internet?. Get your child to a doctor.

He might have bleeding hemmaroids, but, really, it's nothing that anybody here can diagnose with any surety.

Take him to the doctor.

The good news is that bright red usually means that it's not too far up the colon.

I think it's probably minor, but only the doctor can say for sure.

Please, get your son into the Dr. asap-it could be an allergic reaction to something he ate-like the cheese you mentioned, or, I haven't heard of this for little ones--however, maybe he is starting to get hemorrhoids, if he is pushing too hard, etc. Take care.
