Muscle spasms anyone?!

Question: i get really bad muscle spasms from a herniated disk in my neck. i've been to lots of docs about it and have done physical therapy for it but they continue to happen. doc said theres not much else i can do about it other than just suffer through it. so my question is, what can i do to calm down these irritated muscles? i take muscle relaxers and ibuprofen but they barely touch the pain. i've done moist heat too. is there anything else i should do to make it go away faster? it sucks being in so much pain that i can't even move my head!

You could try a visit to a chiropractor and a massage therapist to see if either one helps. Sometimes, muscles spasms deplete tissues of magnesium (which is needed for muscles to relax), so a magnesium supplement with meals and bedtime sometimes helps, but don't expect miracles from this. Applying heat can be extremely helpful - you can get over the Internet microwave heat pads filled with dried rice or corn, or you can make one yourself by filling a long tube sock, and then putting in the microwave for about 2 min. - this is better than an electric heat pad, if that's what you are presently using. There are surgical procedures to fix a herniated disc - you could visit an orthopedic surgeon to see about the options. There are also some exercises that help - here's a good link:

You can drink a lot of water and eat plenty of bannanas. it will give you the pottasium to settle your muscles.

And try gettin a massage. i found that they do help. It is also very relaxing.
