ok, i have tmj and it sounds like that may be your problem. no insurance, you can get a bite guard at big box stores, i would try that before going to a doc. wear it at night, it could be that you've started grinding your teeth and or locking your jaw when you sleep. don't eat gum, chewy foods, caramels, anything that strains the jaw. i can't eat bagels - sucks! too chewy. in addition to wearing the bite guard (plastic mouthpiece) maybe try doing deep breathing exercises before bed, make sure you go to bed relaxed. treat it asap, the tension starts to creep into the neck and back, it can get a lot worse! i ended up tearing muscles in my ear i was locking my jaw so badly while i slept, i started getting dizzy. it can lead to some strange symptoms. if you go to a doc (and it is tmj) they would most likely give you pain pills and muscle relaxers and then refer you to an orthodontist for the mouthpiece, if you get one from a specialist, it's hundreds of dollars. or it was when i got mine, but they do a mouth mold and it is made to fit and correct the bite. try the one from the drugstore first.

look up tmj and see if you have any other symptoms.

good luck!

You should see a doctor!!

it could be your nerves.
