Does lack of sleep make you get sick?!

Question: I'm a sophomore in high school and the classes that I take assign work that takes a long time. On top of that, I do track and take SAT classes. I've pulled a couple of all-nighters and usually get about 4-6 hours of sleep. Recently, I got really sick with a bad fever and it was right after pulling an all-nighter. Is it just a coincidence?? Or can lack of sleep really cause sickness?

Thanks, I'd really like to know because I don't want to go through the same thing because I have to go to school either way. It was just a real pain to have to bear school while feeling miserable.

Unforunately for you lack of sleep plays a major role on compromising the immunie system. Because your body is still in the developmental stages, sleep deprivation can essentially cause major disorders of the central nervous system as well. You need to definitely consider taking a multivitamin after consulting with your parents and local pediatrician.

less sleep = weakened immune system

Yes it does! I know from experience

It can make you sick by lowering your resistence to infections, so yes it can. Your body heals, repairs and renews itself while sleeping, so lack of sleep does not allow your body to do those things.

I hope not, because i sleep all the time, but im also very sick all the time

i used to sleep til like 1:00 or so and woke up at 7:00. It does affect you a lot. try to sleep early. it will be hard at first because u are used to sleeping late, but just try and u will feel better
