What can i do about my migraine?!

Question: Do i just go and sleep it off or what? Migraine medication makes me really shaky. I've had it since yesterday. I've gone to the doctor several times for them and they've tried prescriptions but i will either have a bad reaction to them or they just won't work. The last two times i've been in all they've done was give me a shot in the butt so i go to sleep. I'm sick of being incapacitated by them and i have a puppy to tend to.

They're nearly impossible to ignore...as of right now i'm about to just say the hell with it...crate the dog...and go to sleep...BUT it's TOO bright in the bedroom AND i've darkened it up...i HATE these things

Is there ANYTHING else i can do for it besides take pills and sleep?

The doctor I work for gets really bad migraines and he swears by caffeine. I was surprised by this but it works for him. I had to run out to get him a cup of coffee the other day!! Another person I work with says this also works for her daughter who drinks Coke when she gets one since she doesn't like coffee. Thats for a quick fix anyway just to maybe make you feel a little better right now. Good luck...hope u feel better!!

I feel for you...I get them, too. Sounds like maybe since the meds make you shaky, maybe you should speak to your doctor about preventative meds. There are different ones and maybe your body will handle them better than the migraine relief pills.

That being said, not much besides going for a shot and sleeping that you can do about it at this point. Sorry!!

Good question. I haven't found anything to really help mine, sometimes MAYBE take the edge off, but not always. And I usually have at least 3 per week, often lasting more than one day. Try using one of those blindfold things that help block out the light. I've heard chocolate can cause migraines, it does in some of my family members, so try cutting that out of your diet. If you eat it. If you use fluorescent lighting, that has also been known to cause headaches in some people.
The best advice is to ask someone to pray for you, someone who believes in the pouer of prayer, and be specific. Ask God to take away the headaches in Jesus' Name. He won't for everyone, but it has relieved mine for a few months at a time.

Migraines can be treated with a mild anti depressant. 25 to 50 milligram doses once per day. It has proven successful in many people. That way, when you do get a migraine, whatever you take for it will now work. The over the counter med's to try are Excedrin for Migraine...fantastic. Feeling shaky is part of the migraine, so is nausea, goes with the migraine. Sensitivity to sound and/ or light is common. So down 2 Excedrin for Migraine, put a cool compress on your forehead and brow area, dark room. Snuggle the puppy for comfort. You might want to try another trick...Benadryl for Allergies, has a muscle relaxant in it, Midol does too. Take one with the aspirins, yes, it's a heck of a dose, but it works for severe migraine pain. You will feel drowsy with Benadryl, do not drive. However, the pain should leave entirely or let up with 20 minutes to a half hour. Ask your doctor about using a mild, low dose anti-depressant for migraine relief when you are feeling better. It might change your life.

CHIROPRACTOR!

Perhaps you could investigate a web search for magnesium + migraines.

First, Make sure your posture isn't hunched over and your neck isn't strained, that's a big one that's often overlooked. also make sure you aren't grinding your teeth, or that your jaw has too much tension.

For symptoms, you need to find what works best for you. Some chronic migraine sufferers find relief with oxygen therapy, eg:small tanks with oxygen masks. I personally use Excedrin Migraine, guided meditation, or (believe it or not) a bite of a habanero chili pepper. The heat from the habanero bite stimulates an endorphin rush which often aborts my cluster headache. I've also found that controlled deep breathing, relaxing, and neck and shoulder massage can work just as effectively. The idea is that once people have their headaches the inclination is to stress further which often exacerbates the headache and prolongs it. Sometimes for me, just finding a peaceful place to sit alone, "letting go", finding a "Zen" place, relaxing my breathing, and visualizing my blood vessels and nerves going from a dilated state to smooth and normal, while massaging the back of my neck is all I need. It just depends. The key is too find the ability to relax though, after years of suffering cluster headaches I've learned that stressing the state you're in makes it worse, while "letting go" and finding peace can normalize blood vessel tone.

Cluster headaches are said to be in the same family as migraines in that they originate from the same place but manifest themselves slightly differently. Whether it's oxygen therapy, Excedrin Migraine, Habanero Chili Peppers, Guided Meditation, or all of the above, I'm fairly certain one or all of the things I've mentioned would work for your migraine.

Good Luck.
