ibuprofen works wonders on a hurt stump. so do over the counter muscle pain medication.

keep it iced and get the swelling down. Elevation is fine to keep the swelling down but you don't want to keep it up all the time. If the pain is not going away then she's going to need to see a doctor. She may have broken a bone in it. I broke a small bone in my stump once ( I still have my ankle even though I'm an AkA so I broke one of those bones) They may not cast it if there is a minor break but it would be good to get it checked out.

If the sensation doesn't return soon get that checked out as well. Poor sensation is never a good thing.
But for now lots of rest and keep taking lots of fluids and pain medication.
If the pain gets worse or doesn't go away soon or it gets unbarable go to the hospital.

She will know if it is bad enough to go to hospital or not. I don't go to the doctor every time my stump hurts because I know most of the time they'll just send me home tell me to take some medication and rest. I'm also lucky that my dad is a nurse so he knows when a hospital visit is needed.

you cant be seriously looking for medical help here on yahoo?? ..
go to the hospital, THEY CANT refuse you medical care!! OR to the doctor for godsake

Better get her to the Doctor. She may have cracked the bone at the bottom and is would still hurt like heck.

Not many of us can relate to, or put ourselves in, your b-friend's position. See a doctor.
