I live every day with back and sciatic pain and have for about 5 years. The absoulute best thing I did to ease the pain was ICE ICE ICE and hot baths. Also, when I first went to the doctor, i was told not to use a heating pad because while it can cause initial pain relief, it can cause the pain to be worse when you remove theheating pad because the heat has drawn your blood to the area and makes it hurt worse..or something like that..cant remember exactly the reason, but it was really close to that and when I stopped using the heating pad and did hot baths instead of that(the hot bath is different i guess because your whole body is heated and therefore not drawing all the blood to the pained area) and used ice, it made a huge difference in my pain levels

You probably over stretched a muscle. I would guess most likely the sciatic nerve though. You should have applied Ice for the first twenty four hours. It may still help or use moist heat, twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off. Same with the ice. Resting the back like laying in bed, is probably your best solution. Or if you can, go to a Chiropractor and let him/her take an xray, then do some adjusting if something is out. Apply Aspercreme to your back also, or icy hot cream. You could also have your wife, Mother, girlfriend, massage your back after laying some hot towels on the area. Just run the towel under hot water, rinse it out an apply. Have another towel read, because the first towel will turn cool, keep switching towels for about ten or fifteen minutes, then massage with the Aspercreme. A hot tub is also good. Good luck.

My husband ended up at the chiropractor after the same situation. After 3 vists and the exercises she showed, he no longer suffers from back pain/issues now. Her stretches really helped him.

If you didn't have back problems before lifting the furniture, it's probably just a pulled muscle but I know that can be very painful and uncomfortable!! Maybe you should try Tylenol & Motrin, alternating each dose & then soaking in a hot bath with Epsom Salt. You might also try Icy Hot or Mineral Ice to help relieve the pain. Sorry I'm not much help, but hopefully you'll find something!! Hope you get to feeling better!!
