Chiropractor or general physician?!

Question: I recently hurt my back lifting some stuff. The pain was very bad and I rushed to a chiropractor. He has been adjusting my back since past 2 weeks now (twice-thrice a week) and says that I need to continue doing that for next 5-6 weeks. He says its a problem because of Subluxation Degeneration.

My pain has subsided but I still feel uncomfortable and stiff on my whole torso. The chiropractor is not ready to give me back my x-rays. I am confused - is he screwing me up?

Please help. I cannot run freely and I feel like I have a wooden body. Sometimes my legs hurt too at the hip joints and it makes me think - whats going on with my body at 26 years of age?

I am a Systems analyst and have a sedentary job working on a computer for 5-6 hours a day.

Is it my mattress? Should I go to a general practitioner? Is my chiropractor cheating me? Help!

A general practitioner is most likely going to prescribe some type of pain medication or muscle relaxer. I have great faith in chiropractic and have been helped on a couple of occasions. It is not uncommon to need several weeks of adjustments to take care of an issue. I see nothing wrong with using some medication to ease the pain while you are getting chiropractic treatment. Keep in mind though that if you do go to a physician, many will tell you that chiropractic does not help. Don't give up yet.

Try Ayurvedic treatment. There are various treatments related to back pain are available.

My opinion is that you should continue with the chiropractor. All the GP is going to do is give you pain killers and while you might feel better, the initial problem won't be solved. Did your chiropractor show you the x-rays of your back? My chiropractor showed me the x-rays and explained everything to me. I go and have my neck, back, and lower back adjusted. Mostly for my neck though. I'll go for 5-6 weeks 2-3 times a week and then everything will be good until I do something else that pulls everything out again. I have gone years between sessions. But one thing that I have learned, the chiropractor is the only way to get lasting relief for my problem. Did he give you any exercises that you can do to help loosen the muscles? I have exercises for my neck and when it starts to bother me I can start to do some of them and sometimes that's enough, I don't have to see the chiropractor. I would give the chiropractor a chance though and ask more question of him, get him to explain things. But keep in mind that a chiropractor has to do the same schooling as the GP plus the specialty of chiropractic practice. And another thing I found was that a GP won't tell you to go to a chiropractor even if that's what you really need.
