What should I expect from acl surgery on my knee?!

Question: I'm having it in 2 days and i'm really scared

Answers: I'm having it in 2 days and i'm really scared

Well, let me tell you. I had an ACL done 19 years ago. At that time they made an incision approx. 7" down the outter side of my knee, took a bit of tendon from farther up the leg, attached it with several screws. I was in a cast for two weeks with my leg bent in a 45 degree angle. From there it was a knee brace, bent the same. Non-weight bearing for 15 weeks on crutches, rehab 3x a week forever. NOW....It is done through a scope with three small 1" incisions, repair done an I believe walking on it within a couple of days. If your orthopoedic is on top of his game, you should be good as new within a couple of weeks. Not to worry!

If it won't work for some reason, google acl surgery and look at all the sites

Its a small procedure and your recovery will be great. You will be feeling better in no time. Follow the instructions the doctor gives you thought, such as taking your pain pills as directed. Once it totally wears off you may have slight pain. Also remember you will be groggy after wards so go home and get some rest.

Both my parents have had the surgery and they both say it was the best thing for them. They were in a lot of pain before and now they are mobile and feeling fine.
They both say that if you can bear the pain before surgery, then recovery will be a breeze as long as you follow the doctors orders and DO THE EXERCISES the physical therapist gives you so you don't get stiff and stuck in the same position.
If you are having anxiety about the surgery, when you check in to have it done, ask them if they will give you something before you go in to have it to relax you.
I'm no fan of surgery either, and the small pill that they give you doesn't make you loopy, it just helps you relax and calms your jitters.
Good luck and a speedy recovery to you!
