My parents are doctors, reumatologist and phisical rehabilitation, and I have had this knee problem for like 10 years which is that my knee somehow gets out of its joint sometimes (it gets back in by itself) and then its very sore and swallow, they say that it should be ice for like 10 hrs straight.

I usually do it for like 3 hours though, and sleep then with ice and in the morning is way better.

I always try to follow what they have listed at my work for safety as far as injuries. It is a formula called R.I.C.E. It goes Rest Ice Compress Elevate. You should first Rest the injury, which i assume you have done by now. Next you want to Ice the injury for no more than an hour as it could cause fatigue. After that you want to Compress the injury by wrapping it with something similar to an ace bandage or brace. Then make sure the leg is Elevated while sitting or sleeping and try not to use it excessively. I hope all gets better!!! Good Luck!

I was told 10 minutes with ice
then 10 minutes with heat.
