First thing is to actually decide that you really want to quit. It can't be anyone else's decision. Then set a date to stop. Give yourself the option, "I'm going to quit now and never smoke or I'm going to smoke now and never quit." On that date don't smoke. When you are craving a smoke start to drink water instead. Anytime you are in the position of wanting a cigarette, such as after eating, being on the phone, talking with friends, etc., drink water. The water helps to eliminate/wash the toxins from your body and gives you that hand to mouth thing that you have with a cigarette. Temporarily replace the nicotine with caffeine ie., diet cola's, coffee, tea, etc. Then cut down on the caffeine. That is way easier to do than nicotine. Then treat yourself. Smoking is expensive. Whatever you would have spent on cigarettes spend on a new house plant to help clean your environment. If you don't like plants, get a new outfit. Get yourself a treat of some kind as a reward for your efforts. The hardest days to get past are the 3rd day, the 3rd week and the 3rd month. I quit at my birthday party using this method. People were smoking and drinking all around me. I made the decision and stuck with it. Have I smoked since then? A couple of times but said to myself, "Do you really want to go back to how bad you felt when you smoked?" NO! By the way, I didn't gain a pound. I also didn't pay an arm and a leg for any product on the market to replace the craving with a new one. I wish you the best of luck and a healthy new life!

PS I'm the brunette too.

my hubby used to smoke it had plenty of will power and used it chew on chewing gum .

I've been a smoker for a long time and struggled with quitting many, many times, cold turkey, nicotine lozenges, zyban....
Nothing really worked, however I recommend Allen Carr's "Easy way to stop smoking" book or DVD, I'm telling you, it's pure magic, hard to describe but it works magnificently, just read/watch it with an open mind, you'll be amazed!!!

It takes three days for the nicotine to start to leave your body.. do this.. set a day.. then set the time that you will light the first one.. lets say that time is 8 am.. light it up and do not light up another one for at least thirty minutes. Now.. on day two.. set the time for the first one at 8:30 and the next day at 9 then 9:30 then 10 and then 10:30 and so on.. each day just delay the first one.. you will get to a day that your first one is not due till 10:30 at night.. light it up if you want.. but chances are that you will just look at it and say.. to hell with it.. I don't need one anymore.. next day.. start the nicotine gum or patches.. five will get you ten that you will kick the habit slowly.. Remember.. you learned to smoke a little at at time.. you can quit the same way.. Good luck
