My mom just cut her finger?!

Question: My mom accidentally cut her finger on a steak knife. At first it was bleeding pretty good, but then we applied pressure with a towel the bleeding is now stopped to minimal. It's moderately deep. Should we be concerned? Any tips, anything we should do?

If the bleeding is pretty much stopped, and if she can still move her finger she probably doesn't need to worry - she hasn't cut a vein or tendon or anything.

Put some antiseptic on it, and a bandage, and then some ice to numb the pain and slow the bleeding. If the finger changes color or doesn't move normally anytime in the next few days, get to a doctor immediately. But she should be fine.

if its deep she might need to get stitches..should go to the doctors

apply pressure and elevate the wound until the bleeding stops. if the cut wont close, use butterfly strips.wash with worm water and soap after bleeding stops.

clean w/ alcohol put a piece of gauze (not too big) tape it w/ tape from first aid kit tight enough to close the cut but not so tight you are cutting off circulation

In India, immediate home remedy in case of knife cuts or small bleeding wounds, is applying turmeric powder which always have in kitchen. We use it as a spice in recipes.
If the cut is deep, it is better to consult the doctor who shall decide if stiches are needed.
Refer to the following link for medicinal use of turmeric powder. For your information, this is being used in India since thousands of years. Recently, someone had taken a patent of its medicinal use in USA which was challenged by the Government of India who succeeded in getting the patent cancelled.
'Turmeric is useful as an external antibiotic in preventing bacterial infection in wounds.' - from the link below.

ive done the same thing before. she needs to keep the towel on it, or a paper towel. if it continues to bleed, then you should
get that checked out.

It probably could have used a stitch or 2, but after so many hours they won't do it anymore. If the bleeding has stopped on its own, then I would make sure the wound is clean. It will be normal for it to be sore for a few days but if the pain is really bad or she can no longer move the finger or if any discoloration takes place, then you need to see a Dr.

As long as she keeps it clean and covered, it should heal on its own. If it opens again when she moves her finger, she should run it under water and apply pressure again. I use finger cots which you can buy in the band aid isle. They just protect the finger from being bumped and opening up again.

I'd go to the doctor!
