Ankle still swollen after 4 weeks? 10 points for best answer!!!?!

Question: Hey everyone!
I sprained(I think) my right ankle about a month ago and the swelling still hasn't gone down. It still kinda hurts to point my toe up/down and to sit cross legged, or anything that puts that type of pressure on it. It doesn't hurt to walk or jump on it, just aches sometimes after a long practice day or something. I wear a medium support ace brace, but it it seems to ache more when I wear it than when I don't. I was thinking about going to see my doctor, but I'm not sure? Do you think I should? Do you think that it is something other than a minor sprain? I only want truthful answers, not just things like "you should be more careful!"
Thanks!

PS It happened when I went down to get a ball and my ankle rolled outwards. So, basically, the outside of my right foot touched the floor.

Sprains can take a long time to heal fully. What you are experiencing isn't uncommon. Sprains can take upto 12 weeks to heal fully, sometimes longer.

Rest, Ice, Compression & Elevation are the best treatments for a sprain. Also, if pain bothers you.. if you can take an anti-inflammatory such as ibruprofen, it will help reduce any swelling/pain.

Try to avoid sport/exercise until it has fully healed.

Try some basic mobilisation exercises such as, moving your foot down (toes towards floor) and upwards (toes towards shin), toes inwards (towards your other leg) and the opposite (toes outwards) .. wiggle your toes a lot!

Good luck!

go to your doctor and have it X-rayed,see if ice reduces the swelling, try ibuprofen it is a good anti inflammatory.

Aww, I'm sorry. You should probably take a break from your regular athletic activities, and take it a little easier from there. Be sure to ice it a few times a day for about 30 mins each, but not longer. And yes, I do think you should have your doctor check it out, so you can recover in the best way possible.
~Hope this helps! <3

I am an RN , and i really recommend that you see a doctor, what if something is out of place, and if it does not get corrected , and heals like that, you might be in pain afterwords for a very long time, and if it is just a sprain, doctor might recommend a better support, to improve healing process, good luck

This sounds like something I did when I played sports, You hurt your ankle and kept on playing and never saw a doctor been there and done that. You are aggravating the injury and not allowing it to heal. The ligaments take a long time to heal and by still playing you are making it worse. It hurts the most where the ligaments attach to the bone.

Stop playing and go see doctor and get an x-ray to make sure you have not chipped the bone or maybe a fracture or something else wrong.

I never saw a doctor and kept playing and I have pain to this day in that ankle and also ended up hurting my other ankle. .

You may want to try WebMD.com to see if there is anything else you can do. Then if it does'nt improve go to the doctor and get an X-Ray. In fact feel your ankle now, do you feel any lumps? or does it make a popping/cracking sound when you move it? It might be dislocated because of the way you hurt it. It could also be nerve damage.
