I'm so sorry to hear you've been dealing with a migraine all day! I have LOTS of personal experience (unfortunately) with migraines.

You've received some interesting advice here. I would be really careful about following the advice of those that suggest ingesting caffeine and/or chocolate to get rid of the migraine. Caffeine and chocolate are both VERY common migraine triggers. If you don't know what your triggers are, you may be making your migraine worse and not realizing it (not a fun thing).

I can relate to how frustrating it is to just lay in a dark room all day if you're not getting any pain relief. Unfortunately, anything visual like the tv or computer is going to make the migraine worse (so leave these off). You can try filling your bathtub with hot water (as hot as you can stand it) just a couple of inches of water. Then put your feet in the water (yep, just your feet). The hot water draws blood down towards your legs and feet, releasing some of the blood pressure in your head (yeah, sounds strange but I got this tip from a reliable nurse).

Other things to help: Try accupressure on your hands and feet. Your "brain" point on your foot is the top part of your big toe, and on your hand is the top part of your thumb. You can push the area with your nail, or use the tip of a ball point pen. If you live with someone, have them massage your hands, feet, and neck/shoulders/back (if you're tense in this area). Use an ice pack on the back of your neck and/or on top of where your migraine pain is located. If your migraine continues throughout tonight and into the morning, you probably want to give your doctor a call and see what they suggest you do.

I hope some of this helps!

A caffinated drink like coffee or tea can help. Stay in the dark room lying down longer.

My daughter had bad migraines and I read about being treated by a chiropractor. It worked for her. No more headaches.

Wash your hair with hot water(inflates the blood vessels)Then wash in cold water(deflates vessels)

my friend whose has them says drinking gatorade helps

Magnesium helps in some cases.

here is my solution
I hope this helps you
I had my first full blown migraine when i was in my early twenties. blind spots, facial numbness, numbness in arm and neck followed by a headache so bad i can't describe it. Scared the heck out of me.
they tested me and took me off birth control pills
they put me on medication
i did not like the way the meds made me zombie out
i did research and have a method that has been very good for me and i recommend it to everyone with migraines
at the first sign of migraine (I get a lot of visual distortion or light sensitivity)-
1)reduce activity
2)drink a Coca-Cola {the original one with sugar and caffeine}
3)eat a Hershey's dark chocolate candy bar
4)take one aspirin
5)take one Tylenol
6)move to a location with less light
this will stop a migraine in its tracks for me usually within 15 minutes.
another tip...........if you have a lot of visual distortion get a blue light bulb, if you are in a room with only a blue light it will filter the distortion out and you can see clearly, it's great.
learn your migraine triggers everyone has different ones.
hormones, dehydration, allergies, illness, stress are the most common

Reasons and remedies are many, but pl see what suits you.
If you are in cold country use all warm things.
Pl try cold water bath and observe if in hot country, if pain increases use warm.
If you have cough/cold body hot water bath will help.
Massage and exercise in front of morning sun is good thing, pl try.
Pl try simple acupressure given below for immediate relief.
If it fails you will have to go for Acupuncture.

There is hardly any medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for RA, OA, Back ache, Ear ache/ringing, Stomach ache and almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.

Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES, Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy, BODY CONSTITUTION etc are their causes.
None of them can be treated with medicine.
Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.

Acupuncture is the best treatment.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.

Pain killers don't treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.
The useless drugs have tremendous power of side effects like liver/kidney failures, ulcer, inflammation of intestines and lot more.

Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, tension, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods, SMOKING and alcohole.

Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits like dates, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help if cough is not there.

But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong.

If it is acute pl search a painful point (with round tipped pen/jimmy) 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.

For forehead/eye pain the points are in front of nails on the finger tips or 3-7 mm below.

It may disappear naturally too.
