Is it necessary to remove my Gallbladder?!

Question: A few months ago I had a Gallbladder attack after eating fast food for lunch. Anyway, I haven't had any recurring pain since. However, my doc says I need surgery b/c the pain might come back and may cause more damage. Any who, I feel fine now and I plan to change my eating habits....so I was wondering is it necessary to remove my gallbladder?!? Should I just clean out my system?!? I've read about all the side effects you can get for instance, the runs, pain, and gain weight.....Plus! I'm scared to go under the knife. Suggestions please!! Thanks ;)

Wow, I'm surprised they want to take it out so quickly. If it doesnt bother you all the time then I wouldnt worry about it yet. Do you have stones? Sometimes the stones can come out and clogs up other parts in that area and cause more damage.

Repeated gallbladder attacks can do lasting damage to some internal structures. To some extent it depends on the exact size and shape of stones and the likelihood that they'll produce a damaging obstruction. Perhaps your doctor has determined that this likelihood is high and has recommended surgery in consequence.

Modern gallbladder surgery is very straightforward and common; you need not be afraid of having it. It's one of the most common surgeries around. Current methods leave virtually no scar and minimize postoperative discomfort. It hurts a lot less than a gallbladder attack.
