Nail Biting Habit I CANT Quit Need NEW Suggestions!!!?!

Question: I've been biting my nails since I was a kid, in fact I use to pick my fingers over pacifiers I'm told. I've tried some of the suggestion on here, and they work for a little while before I just HAVE to bite my nails. It's really impulsive and I don't know how to control myself. One second I'm cool and before I even notice it a finger is in my mouth for a quick nibble despite the fact that I've already hit the nub.

I need some NEW & RADICAL suggestions to help me quit.
BTW If one more person suggests Nail Polish I'll have a conniption!!!

It's like an addiction and there are 3 ways to permanently eliminate it:
1) Replace one bad habit with another.
- You can try to chew something else like a pencil when the need arises, then after a few weeks get rid of the pencil.

2) Slowly eliminate the habit
- Make a goal to NOT chew from 7-8am everyday. Everyday add one hour 7-9, then another day, another hour. During these times you should NOT bite on it but after that you can bite. After 2-3 weeks you should be free from that habit.

3) Go cold turkey (which is not working i guess)

get acrylic nails.

try something simple: gum?

How about cayenne pepper dust....

Douse your fingers in that every time you get the urge.

Then it hurts (literally) to fill that desire.

Also remember to not rub your eyes. : )

Good Luck.

rub chilies in your hand...just remember to wash them off before you go to the toilet

You and me both man. lol

i got fake nails put on, that way i can't get to them. i guess it kind of destroys the nail underneath if youre not careful but it helped me quit.

splurge and go to a nail technician and get some acrylics put on. they;ll last a few weeks and you can't bite acrylic nails, so you'll break teh habit by the time theyre off, and your nails will have grown!!
if u cant afford it just get a pack of [decent] fakes and replace them every few days, itll at least break the cycle a bit.

What about the nail polish that has the nasty taste? i think its called Thumbs, they use it for kids to force them to stop sucking their thumbs (hence the name). Just put that on your nails and maybe that'll detour you a little. worked for me! =D

what helps me is under ur nail is have what is called parsacite worm eggs.. microscopic and even if u dont swallow ur nails what gets stuck to your mouth or teeth it is!

now what happens is later on when u swallow saliva it goes in too which is then evolves to some worms called tape worms round worms and etc..

do some research on those u wont like i i gurantee it!

that is what made me stop!

Have you tried hot sauce, don't know if it works but I've heard
it suggested. My mom bites hers not to the nub. I'll have to
ask her what she uses or does to stop herself other then
having us tell her not to chew her fingers (lol).

Have you tried wearing a loose rubber band around your wrist? When you catch yourself biting, give yourself a little snap with the band, and stop. After you've practiced this for awhile, you may have broken the habit. If this and other methods don't work, perhaps seek professional help. It really is a nasty habit, and I believe you can break it.

Try isometric exercises. They are exercises that work the muscles and especially the tendons by stretching or pushing against still objects, or by using one hand as resistance to the other arm. You can sometimes feel a little burn by doing this, releasing some endorphins.

You could alternatively take up a smoking habit or drug addiction, but that is hardly a step up.

Its really a matter of just telling yourself no. You can fill the craving with something else, but in the end it will come down to your own willpower.

Willpower baby - self control - you can do it

Punch urself in the face everytime you do it.

Trust me it'll work lol.
