Have you ever hurt yourself badly?!

Question: I haven't actually had anything horrific happen to me although years ago I did mess up my right knee...

I think I must have been about 9 or 10, you know, the age when you seem to been fearless about everthing whether it be making ominous rope-swings or doing stupid stuff on your Raliegh Burner to impress the girls - or was that just me!

Anyway, forget the digression; I was buggering about in the garden for some reason when I fell over knee first into some glass - bottle, window, whatever; I'm not sure. It really did make a bit of a mess. My mum obvioulsy heard my plight and came dashing outside to be confronted by "ouch" situation.

She carried me upstairs and as far as I remember filled the bath with some Dettol or something while I stood on the landing; shock-horror! Blood started to spurt out my flippin' knee; I screamed, argghhhh!

I remember being taken to the hospital for stitches where I also perforated all the staffs eardrums while they were attempting to sew it up.

when i was thirteen i was letting a friend give me a lift on a push bike, i was sat on the seat and fell off on the back wheel with a short skirt on.

i spent the night in hospital and could not walk properly for 9 days,

it swelled up like a balloon, and to this day was the worse thing that as ever happened to me

regards x kitti x

They knocked me out when I stuck my tooth through my top lip - no screaming! Still have the scar on my lip and on my knee from the stone I fell onto!

whilst travelling i slept walked out of the top of a bunk bed and fell onto a concrete floor - i broke my arm and most of my toes!

Very embarrasing cos i was taken to hospital and then returned to hostel with a cast on and not able to wear shoes.

People i had been drinking with and talking to night before were a bit puzzled when i turned up to breadkfast with cast!!!!

Have also drunk nail varnish remover in my sleep and walked out of the house into a 6 ft snow drift (when i lived in canada) and almost got hyprthermia!!!! - not safe in my sleep!!!

have broken three toes, bashed them twice on the same day on hearth stones went to doctor a week later as weren't getting better.

Let's see...

Gash in head.
Messed up ear
Fractured foot.
Dislocated knee.

And! Not one of these was my fault.

Gash in head- Caused by my friend throwing a stick at me. -.-
Messed up ear- Neighbor had left privet to grow and a branch became entangled in the wheel, I fell off, yup.
Fractured foot- Bullies. -.-
Dislocated knee- Floor was slippy, I adjusted my weight and I was on the floor, ouch.

Yeah, I'm hospital-prone, I've had more ailments that weren't accidents.. I have at least 1 major hospital visit a year. =/ I'm delicate, lol! :P

yeah when i was 8-9 ish i fell off a 6ft wall onto my back wouldnt ave hurt if there was grass under me but it was concret an it really hurt me couldnt breath proper for bout 5mins.

This doesn't sound that bad, but once, in school, me and my friend were trying to get a rubber top off a broken test tube. Before we started trying to get it off I said:
"I'm going to get cut!"
I saw the glass and said that, but I didn't think it would actually happen. We were trying to yank it off when my finger slipped and the broken glass sliced my finger open with a lot of force because we were pulling the rubber top really hard. It didn't look so bad at first, it just looked like a normal cut. Suddenly, blood came pouring out of it, dripping everywhere, I mad a huge mess on the science room floor and I nearly fainted because I can't stand blood! I've got a nasty scar on my left index finger from it.

yea playing kiss catch when i was very young tried to catch a girl by trying to jump down a flight of steps landed on my knee and removed all skin from around the cap revealing the bone ouch and to this day its still an eyesore

yeah, one day in summer i was trying to be superman, so climb some wall that was in my garden, yeah, and when i get there i just jump without knowing that i could hurt myself, but anyway, i was an amateur boy. the thing is that when i fell on the floor i hit my forhead and i just can scarcely remember all the badly blood pouring in my eyes and mine mouth. uhuuuuu

smashed the end off my finger in a slamming door at about 11 yrs old. end of finger could see the bone - horrific

Swaped bikes with a "mate" at about 13yrs and had a race around a school....i was winning but his bike had NO brakes luckily a brick wall stopped me - top teeth went straight thru bottom lip and a flap of my scalp came away... lots of blood!

In my 20's i was showing off by a pool in saudi doing "Bullet Dives" made the pool look like strawberry cordial, possibly actually cracked a tile at the bottom - another split scalp but with severe concussion - strangest feeling in the world to be walking along and then find yourself on the floor with no recollection of how u got there.

Last year, having given up all forms of xtreme sports (lol) had a fall at work and crushed a vertebrae in my back

I'm staying in bed till i get my pension!!!!

2 broken ribs on my right side and a scared retina on my right eye on the inside, I broke my ribs when I fell off a train platform onto a buffer and I have a slight dent there now and I scared my retina when I got poked in the eye by my brother by accident, I would probably be blind in that eye if I wasn't wearing contact Len's at the time, the lens was torn when I took it out my eye was totally blood shoot for a week and I have just a line there now. Oh and two broken two's on my left foot when I was walking around bare foot and kicked the side of the door whilst walking through it, still...could be worse.

i hurt myself the other day,i fell down the stairs and bashed the side of my knee, oh my god did it hurt i knocked myself sick felt like i was going to pass out.ive got 5 children and they were all crying and i felt useless. its been 5 weeks now and it still hurts.

2 actually-

1- I was like your age when this incident happened. Tried to get along with my brother. Were having some fun upstairs playing paper football- we were laughing and having a good time. My mom shortly comes up and she reminds us not to get too out of hand. We pay no attention and go back to playing. I went in my room to get some lemon flavored altoids and I came back out holding them. I remember my brother asking for one but then claimed he didn't like it so he spit it out. I must have been laughing or something but next thing I know he accidently pushed me back of the head first into the wall. I started crying and...then head was bleeding. 4 stitches and still have them saved in a drawer....

2- Basketball season. Right at the beginning. Was pretty healthy I could say. Had this wide open layup for a breakaway in a practice. This girl comes on me and I trip over her and land right on my ankle..- sprained my ankle :[

When I was 8 or 9, I was sort of new to riding this new bike my parents bought me. Well as I was turning the corner, there was this rosebush.... and well it happened to fast for me to react in time to break. So my left calf had so many thorns in it, it really hurt and I cried so much. And now that I am almost in my mid 20's, I still have the big ol' scare on my left calf.
Also last labor day, I just started going mountain biking with my boyfriend... well I did this stupid thing where I was coming down a small little hill and I was rolling off very quickly. I tried to avoid this small rock that was in the middle of the way by quickly turning my front wheel to the side.... but unfortunately I went flying one way, and my bike went down the other. And because I was on a small hill, I rolled all the way down and lucky for me I was okay... my left arm (near my elbow, and close to inside) was bleeding really bad and it was stinging. This was when we learned to come more prepared when biking... we now have a small first aid kit in our bags now... I guess riding on the bike for me isn't ment to be... but I still do it anyways.

Lots... but this beats all of em' hands down!

I had my tonsils out last year, at the tender age of 25. It was very painful, no jelly & ice cream (i was given crisps and dry toast in hospital).

I got home and two days later I had an infection in the wound site. Doctor gave me massive pills I had to swallow *ouch* ....

I started to feel a lot better.....

then 9 days post-surgery, sat on my own at home... I thought I could taste blood, so I went to the bathroom and spat into the sink. Then blood started spurting out of my mouth!!!! It was spurting with my heartbeat! It was spurting out with such force I could hit something from a metre away.

I ran around the house in a panic... thinking totally irrationally (I was even looking for a towel that wasn't white - so I didn't ruin them, even though I was spurting all over all of them) ... It was everywhere, all over the walls, curtains, the whole bathroom .. then I decided i'd better call for an ambulance.. by this time I was choking as some blood was going down my throat...The phone was completely soaked with blood

The ambulance arrived in a few mins, got to A&E and the surgeon tried to stop the bleed by swabbing the wound with adrenaline... I soaked him in blood.

They then took me to theatre, a huge male anaesthetist pressed down on my throat (strangled me) to stop the blood going into my stomach - that was my last memory as I went under...

Apparently, I then arrested. They brought me back, fixed my ruptured artery and then I woke up at a different hospital.

I also needed a blood transfusion. I was anaemic for 8 months after that incident.
