I had a hernia repair last year, they didn't tell me anything about my makeup. Just remember it is for your own good... The better they can see your true skin tone and color, the better they can know your vitals. I do want you to make sure you don't let them use a "Mesh Hernia Patch" It was recalled due to a lot of problems including infection, pain, swelling, etc. and has had to be removed from everyone who had it done. I just found out my Dr didn't use that on me. Thank god.. "Good luck and best wishes.

dont wear any it could cause infection and they need to see if you are or not turning blue. keep the makeup off. no makeup.

Just leave it off, the nursing staff are well used to seeing people without makeup. My Grandma was the same as you. She broke her hip, and was more worried about being seen without makeup than anything else, and was putting it on in the ambulance lol, so I can kind of understand where you are coming from. xx Goodluck with your surgery.

Yes, you can wear mascara. They probably won't even notice you have it on. What they don't want is for you to wear foundation or blush or powder or lipstick because while you are under general anesthesia your skin and lips will discolor if you're not getting enough oxygen and the makeup would hide that. But truthfully, no one is likely to be watching your skin tone. They'll have you hooked up to a machine which will monitor your oxygen saturation, heart rate, and respiratory rate and an alarm will go off if anything drops.

So put on just enough makeup to get yourself out the door, and just be prepared to clean it off if anyone makes a fuss.

I can't believe anyone is vain enough to risk compromising their health in order to wear make up during surgery. I'd maybe be rethinking my priorities.

Nobody in the hospital cares what you look like without make up, but if you must wear it you can take it off at the very last minute before you go to theatre. You shouldn't wear nail varnish either, because they need to check the nail beds for colour too.

You could get your eyelashes tinted black, that looks like you have mascara on. Really is it that important though?
