Sciatica pain?!

Question: I believe I am experiencing sciatica pain - I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. It began as what I thought was pelvic pain, so I went to the GYN. Turns out nothing was wrong. Now I believe the pain is coming from my back, towards my pelvis, not vice versa. When I sit down the pain is the worst. It begins on my left/center side near my butt and radiates down my left leg. The pain feels like a burning/tingling/numbness/cold feeling all at the same time. It makes my leg feel kind of weak, but it is relieved by standing and lying down. Has anyone else experienced this? Sound like sciatica?

Also, how does it happen? I haven't had an accident, fall or any type of trauma. I am kind of confused.

Sciatica is blooming awful and I should know having just got over it for the second time. Anything could set it off - a sharp cough or violent sneeze, lifting something, twisting....
What you've got sounds very much like what I had with the burning/numbness etc. The best thing to do is to keep as mobile as you're able. Your GP will offer pain relief and may also suggest gentle stretching excercises which do help. Keep an ice pack and a heat pad handy. Either are good for the pain. This time I found sitting up to be a problem. My pain also extended into my ankle and big toe, making me feel sick. I ended up in hospital overnight simply because nothing would ease the burning agony. Paramedics gave me morphine shot and they may as well not have bothered! But hospital was where I was given the entirely wonderful TENS machine which I will recommend to anyone. Brilliant!
