Loose ankle?!

Question: I have had 3 sprains in my left ankle since October. Since the last one 5 weeks ago, the ankle is still sore and swells when I walk. Not sure how to describe the sensation when I walk other then the ankle feels like it popping in and out when I pick up place my foot down. There is some pain when I walk and in the mornings the ankle is stiff and can barely walk for about an hour.

Now I have no insurance so have not seen a doctor and I know I need to. If any one has an idea what is wrong, do you think that it is just a very bad sprain or is something else more serious. What do you think they will do to treat it?

Also would I make a big mistake if I wait 2 more months till I do have insurance, there will be no pre-exisiting clause.

How bad was the pain when you did it?
You sound like you have experienced a break but if it was 5 weeks ago it may not have a chance to heal and need a cast, skip the steps and get an appointment with the podiatrist your insurance will allow, you may be able to qualify for deferred payment if they know you are getting insurance talk to the office girls at the clinic, the foot doctor will cut out the middle man which is the fam dr, who will want x-rays then in another month or so you will finally see the foot dr, take your 'steps' on your own...ha ha

I broke both of my ankles and sprained them once; I have absolutely no problems anymore.

What happened is that your ligaments and tendons are stretched out from the impact of the strain & sprain. It'll take awhile for them to tighten up. To help strengthen the area and accelerate healing, do calf raises and do reverse calf raises (put your heels on the edge of a board and raise your toes). Start with two sets and work up to 3 sets to failure on each set for both exercises. Get it checked out when you get insurance. Take a systemic enzyme (like Vitalzym) which will help decrease inflammation and speed healing. Best of luck!

follow up with your orthopedist. they accept cash.
