Quitting Smoking and Cola @ the same time? Tips?!

Question: Im trying to become pregnant and I've read that caffine isnt good for a growing baby ( imagine thattt ) lol and obviously neither is smoking. So, I would like to quit both by this time next week before becoming pregnant! Have you ever quit one or the other or Both? How did you do it? How can i calm the headaches associated with kicking the caffine?

hi kelly, no I dont smoke but I have heard that smoking cant interrupt fertility and damage the unborn baby if you concieve.
caffeine I dont know about that I drink coffee and tea but I dont know if it can damage the baby but it can interfere with mens sperm count make it very low.
My hubby is a caffeine addict he drinks too much coffee.
But I cannot say anything I drink tea.
Trying to quit hunni is not going to be easy but good luck.
I dont see any harm in continuing to drink coke my dear as long as its in moderation ok its not alcohol is it.
Just hope you become pregnant and best wishes to you kelly.
try the ovulating tests and download an ovulating calculator to help you track your fertile times.
apart from that give up smoking ok...
headaches I can recommend just paracetmol as it wont affect the fertility and conception and pregnancy.
baby dust to you hunni good luck xx

I would start with the cigarettes and don't worry about the caffeine since when you get pregnant your tastes will change and you probably wont want the caffeine anyway. But if you do then you can start then. Cigarettes are the hardest.

well i used to smoke and drink alot of coffee, soda and energy drinks.
and i decided i wanted to quit smoking first.it was really hard but i would just make myself not but packs and i started chewing gum.not nicotine gum just regular gum.and it acctualy helped.of course it takes time depending on how long youve been smoking or how much.
but since you want to get pregnant i think it will be easier since you have a really good reason to quit.
and to quit drinking caffiene was hard too.
i just started buying juices and stuff like sobe and vitamin water.
that way i still get flavored drinks but none with caffiene.

hope it works out.

The headaches go away after a few days, and really one cola every once in a while won't hurt a baby, or maybe you could drink tea. just enough caffeine.
As for smoking, I quit as soon as I found out I was pregnant. (the baby was a surprise). It was not difficult because I felt that I had no option. There was no way I was going to continue to smoke while pregnant, so when you have no options the choice is easy. Just remember what the reason for quitting is, and that should be motivation enough.
I also quit drinking caffeine at the same time for the same reason. I later found out that it is not bad in moderation. People might tell you otherwise. I think it's definately better to quit (caffeine) for your health too, but don't beat yourself up over a coke now and then.
I've found that, through pregnancy and having a child, everything is a lot easier to do when you're doing it for your baby.

My mom smoked, and drank a pot of coffee every day while she was pregnant with me. I turned out okay. If you really want to quit smoking, ideally you'd go to your dr. and get one of the medications that help you out. And you'd join a support group. But obviously this can't happen if you're getting prego.

Honestly, becoming pregnant may be the reason you quit. A mother's love for her child is so fierce that even terrible addictions won't win.

What I didn't tell you is that Mom (62) died 3 years ago. Lung cancer. It was terrible, terrible. Don't let that happen to you. She missed so many wonderful family times and left us far too early.

TX Mom

see your doctor for Chantix and drink water or tea.

Kelly -- I think you can wait one more month.. Stop buying the cirgaretts and stop buying caffine products... What headaches??? Once you stop then give it a go-ok.. To help your husband must stop smoking -- 2nd hand smoke is nasty... Don't forget to invite the husband for the big event...ok
