When the cut won't stop bleeding after 1 hour, it will probably need stitches from ER. My friend just cut her finger & it was bleeding for 4 hours even though she was keeping tight pressure on it. Every time she took bandage off it started bleeding again. She finally went to ER & needed 4 stitches.
If you're waiting keep bleeding part of body above level of heart to reduce bleeding.
When you cut through at least 5 layers of skin.
It depends on where it's located. If its on a finger joint, it just has to be large enough for it to reopen every time you bend it. Basically if the skin isn't going to hold itself together, you're going to have to get stitches, otherwise it won't heal right.
