Has anyone a remedy for severe heartburn?!

Question: A good home remedy is baking soda (1T.) and water and drink. so is 1 T. vinegar.
Then there is the medications..several, OTC now. Prilosec, Zantac & the good ole' antacids. HOWEVER....more importantly may I suggest to you some advice as well. Don't ever let the burning go up your Esophagus for very long..grab something, anything. I did that for yrs. and I am now suffering the results of not taking heartburn seriously. I am scheduled for surgery of the esophagus nxt. month, cuz I have dysplasia, pre-cancerous cells on the lining of my esophagus (by the way my Dad died from this).
Each time your esoph. has the acid burning on it, away goes the lining...that is when Nexium came into the picture yrs. ago. That is what I take. Very expensive though. But quite helpful.
I am a huge advocate of reminding people not to let heartburn be something they think is normal and to just take an antacid.! It destroys the lining of your esophagus..Plz. take me serious when I tell you this. I am not sure how old you are ..take care of yourself, and be very insistent with your Doc. I have had 4 endoscopies done, and they are just miserable ..
get a Rx,. and watch your diet also.

Gavilast its amazing, if you are in the UK.

My dad suffers from heartburn and he goes for a glass of milk when he get it. Seems to work for him.

you probably have helicobacter piroly. get a test done and they gave me an antibiotic and ive had no bother with it since.

It is a bit expensive, but it is the best thing I have ever used...prilocec. It keeps the heartburn away for 24 hours. I also get prescriptions for prevacid because I have acid reflux so in between the prescriptions I use prilocet and like i said it is the best thing I have ever used.
Hope this info helps!

i started suffering with this just after xmas ,i went to my dr who after asking me lots of questions prescribed RANITINE tablets twice a day and told me to eat little and often,he also said it was probley due to stress,it has worked for me see your gp,and hope you feel better soon

Try standing up and sip teppid water. Any of the ant- acid remedies should offer some relief. Depends what you prefer. Also try to remember what brought it on and avoid that in future. Try to relax and do not bunch yourself up. Give your insides room to move.

I can sympathize with you, my friend, I have been in the same situation but thankfully one of the problems has been sorted out (removal of gall bladder). Unfortunately, the surgeon discovered I had a haitus hernia which I now take medication for daily.
Have you tried Gaviscon extra ? If your doctor seems unable to treat you satisfactorily, request for a referral to the hospital where you are likely to undergo an ultra-sound scan and an endoscopy (neither are unpleasant).
Good luck ! I hope you feel better soon.

Change your diet, I had a similar problem for many years, until nothing was working. I ate anything and everything, always having heartburn which if you don;t know is indigestion reflux. slowly but surely I was able to find out what foods gave me this, and I stopped eating and drinking these.
One of the big offenders was aspartame, an artificial sweetener found in many drinks, together with most breads, I am only able to eat Sainsburys own make multiseeded loaf now, it really takes time. Other foods are virtually any cheap biscuits or crisps. A quick remedy is a bowl of porridge, which seems to settle my indigestion.
Good Luck in your quest.
