Ingrown toe nails info..?!

Question: Ok so my husband has had a ingrown toenail b4 and he had outpatient surgery once about 1 year and a half ago and it was ok for awhile but then like 6 months later he started to feel it growing the wrong way again. But by then our insurance had expired. And so he just pulled it out himself(he said it hurts like hekk but had to do it) so this has happened about 3 or 4 times since the surgery and now it just seems like evn if he tries to get it out by himself it isnt gettin better. He wants to go back to the doctor but we currently dont have any insurance.Does ne1 know how much it costs and if theres nething they can do to prevent this from occuring again?

Sorry so long just wanna make sure to explain the whole situation and please only real answers.....Thanx

i worked for a foot surgeon for 2 years as his assistant and it sounds like the surgery your husband had was a partial nail avulsion (removing the part of the nail that was ingrown) since this is a recurring problem, your husband needs to have either a partial PERMANENT nail avulsion (permanently removing the portion that continues to grow inward) or a permanent nail avulsion ( permanent removal of the entire nail) either of these two procedures involve a chemical called phenol which is applied to the nail root ,after removal, to prevent regrowth and this is very effective- this surgery cost $225.00 all day long and that is a reasonable price- if you mention you are uninsured the doc will probably give you a break- other remedies are warm salt water soaks and try applying drops of colloidal silver (all natural antibiotic)to keep down on infection. hope this helps
