Sounds like gas pains. Try cutting all carbonated drinks out of your diet, you will be amazed at how much less gas you have.
EDIT:
The left side is where your colon makes a turn. Try eating more fiber, which may produce more gas, and get things moving down there. I have had this, too when I was much younger and it is very painful. As long as you're not passing blood or in severe pain, it's probably not serious.
EDIT:
Heidi Ann...the appendix is on the lower right side, not the left side of your abdomen. Look it up.

left side? go to the doctor I think that is where your appendix (sp?) is. Or it could be IBS make sure with your doc

WebMD answers questions like this on a daily basis. It might be better to go there. Try drinking some Maalox, or Pepto Bismol or using some antacid. If it were a recurring problem I would go to the doctor.

You said it feels better (a little bit) when you flatuient. This could be trapped gas. Not to worry it's happened to the best of us lol. Drink lots of water, this will help to flush your system. Make sure to drink it throughout the day though and not all at once because there such a thing as water poisoning...also, make yourself burp a lot. I know that may sound weird, but it helps to release trapped gas.
If this doesn't help and you still feel the pain and pressure on your left side in a day, please go to your doctor because your appendix is on your left side. Do a quick test...feel the lower part of your left side by your hip bone....is the skin tender to the touch? If so....go to your doctor now! Please.
