Femur fractures are serious business. There are very large arteries and veins that run alongside of it and if one is cut you have a big problem. However, I dont see how falling down while warming up can cause a femur fx. I have seen alot of femur fx, and they are all as a result of some trauma (car accidents and such). It is possible, as the person above me has suggested that she may have a bone density problem. If so, you sould ask the doc for a script for a DEXA scan (the scan will measure the density of her bones). If she is deficient, they will probably prescribe her some meds (fosamax or something like that).

That is strange for a 14 year old to fracture a femur. What made her fall to begin with?
Was she dizzy, did she faint, is she diabetic?
The only way I know to fix a fractured hip is surgery..has your DR done xrays to rule an operation out?

It depends on where on the femur the fracture is located. Most likely she can expect a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks. Your doctor should have given you this information.

I find it very strange as well. If is not common for anyone under 60 to fracture a demur so easily since it is one of the strongest bones in the body. It not common to have a bone density scan done on a 14 year old but it should be considered simply because a healthy bone of a girl this young should not have fractured so easily.

I wish your daughter speedy healing and a health attitude.
