How do i get this ring off my finger?!

Question: Long story short a ring that is slighly to small for my finger is stuck
My finger started swelling up for whatever reason and now I can't get it off.

I'm waiting for the swelling to go down.
Any tips for speeding up the swelling down?

Then I'm going to try to pull it off
Any tips for pulling small rings off before my finger swells up again?

Put ice on the finger - not the ring - to get the swelling down.

Then apply a bit of dishwashing liquid only on the fingertip side of the ring.

THEN gently pull the skin toward you from under the ring. So it doesn't bunch up on the other side.

Rings should *always* be split so you don't get a ring avulsion.

soak your hand in cold water, and apply dishwashing liquid, it will slide off.

stop eating for 2 days and your finger will get thinner

Windex glass cleaner. Seriously, spray a little on your finger and the ring should come off.

put neosporin all over it!!!!!! twist the ring and move it back and forth!!!!! if nothing works go to the doctor!!!! hope your finger gets better!!!

alot of jewlers i know use vaseline hand cream... you could try cooking oil though? i dont suggest ice or cold water... that stings more

that happened to me when i was younger and my dad cut it off with pliers. well really the fire department did. i think. lol

If you soak your hand in ice cold water it may reduce the swelling. Pure soap as a lubricant will help.

There was a trick with string but I do not recall which side you put it on...By placing the string around the finger like a tourniquet, you cause the blood flow to stop in this immediate area and the welling goes down...then you move the ring...but which side of the ring, I do not remember...I think it is on the side closest to th finger tip but close to the ring...

IF nothing works, and the swelling increases, you may have to get it cut. Some Er's have a special tool they use for cutting rings...

Hold your hand straight over your head for about five minutes, then grease it up with either soap or oil and it should slide off.

If it doesn't then hold it up again, for longer, and massage from the tip to the base of your finger, pulling the fluids down, pinch the finger, and massage from tip to base.

Then try again. If it doesn't work, then you might have to go to the doctor.

The easiest way would be to poke a small ribbon under the ring so that you have approximately 2 cm hanging out on the side furtherest from your finger tip, wind the ribbon remaining on the finger tip side tightly around the finger ensuring that all the skin is covered and then taking the end that you passed under the ring draw it over the ring toward your finger tip. This should pull the ring over the ribbon you have tightly wrapped around the finger removing it and the ribbon at the same time. If this does not work visit your local Dr or Hospital who will be able to cut the ring off.

ok this is what i do, i but oil all over the finger and the ring and it slides rite off and for swelling ice

Go to your nearest Fire Department. They will use a ring cutter and cut it off for you. There is no charge for this and they are there 24 hours a day.

warm water will help the slow down.
the ring?
i use butter.
it really does work.

Ok i have had this happen before. To stop the swelling i would soak it in cold water. But if the ring is metal then dont get it super cold because then the metal will shrink and we dont want that now do we? After the swelling stops use vasaline/lotion/butter/soap/etc.. After youve used any of these the ring should slip right off. If it dosent then i would go to the hospital or fire department.
Good Luck
