Excruiciating neck/back pain brought on suddenly. anyone relate? help!!?!

Question: It started as a sore neck yesterday and traveled to my upper right back, I couldnt move when i awoke this morning, took me an hour to roll out of bed. It hurts to turn my neck, sit down, sit up, lay down, etc. Its been 24 hrs and not getting better. Its hard to drive and cant go to work.
I am saving dr/chiropractor as last resort as I have no insurance.
I tried:
heating pad, hot showers, Icy Hot cream, massages, laying flat on back, hot tea, stretching, ibuprofen, muscle relaxer .....none helps or even alleviates the pain.

I dont know if its a pinched nerve? I didnt do anything to bring it on i dont think, just normal routine.
Anyone been through this or know what I should do? Thank u for any help!

sounds like your on the right track... even as a nurse im not medically covered, so i share your same predicament.

Heres the thing:

Take aleive its a stronger anti-inflammatory... its generic name is naprosen. take as directed. But keep on it.

Take tylenol with it to help with the pain and muscle spasms.

Drink plenty of water and DO NOT exceed the recommended allowances on the back of the medication bottles!

ICYHOT seems to help, so does your girlfriend rubbing your body.

Dont be too concerned right now with a shooting pain, as that is fairly typical. although it is scary.

If the pain seems intolerable as im sure it is, whats a $150 ER visit + $30 for meds ( all without insurance )...... to have your back feeling better... likely you will get a type of narcotic for pain (which is obviously way better than tylenol)... and possible a steroid (which is a powerful anti-inflammatory) or even a muscle relaxant.

pinched nerve, pulled muscle, slipped dics... they are all treated fairly the same... and if your like me... you probably dont want to be too aggressive right away...

because each xray can cost $1,000 and an MRI can be upwards to 5-10k$

So when do you really need to see a doctor? If the pain doesnt get any better after 5 days, or your still experiencing moderate pain after 2 weeks, than i definitely suggest seeing a physician.

Best thing to do is try to lay down in bed in a position that feels most comfortable.. and try not to do things that irritate it!

If it is a pulled muscle, (which it sounds like) you are doing all the right things. However, an injury such as you describe usually takes me 2-3 days. As you lie on your back, there will be one direction that is a little more difficult to turn your head to - and that is the direction that you should turn, that will help as well, as you recover.

no its just you

u poor thing, this sounds like u were siting in a draft close to an open window or air con, it happens, stay warm take it easy for a few days it will go away. this is what i would do , run a warm bath buy a tub of epsom salts poor a cup of the salts in to bath stir with your hand for 10 sec, get in relax, it will work 100%, good luck.
