How to stop sucking your thumb?!

Question: Hi!
Well I'm turning 14 in 20 days and I still suck my thumb!
I can't stop! I've tried everything, my mom even took me to the orthodonist and they put this huge metal thing on the top of my mouth to try top stop it... and I still figured out a way.

I really don't know how to. Like I tried to stop, but my eyes start to burn and I can't sleep. For some reason its like the only reason why I can sleep and it relaxes me.

The problem is... I've had braces for 6 years, and then I got them taken off. Now, my teeth are messed up again. My mom thinks I stopped, well everyone thinks I stopped. I only do it at night, though

Any suggestions? And did you ever suck your thumb?

I did until I was 11. I did two things. I wore a sock on my hand and I got a squishy pillow and changed from sucking my thumb to hugging the pillow. It took a lot of repeated reminding myself...thumb out....hug pillow instead. But, I was determined and I broke myself of the habit. Another suggestion tell on yourself. Keeping the secret may be in fact perpetuating your habit. Maybe your mom can help you find and try different solutions.

just quit cold thumb.

get this stuff called bitter apple. its for dogs to stop chewing on things. put it on your thumb and its soooo bitter you wont want to put your thumb in your mouth.

or you can try the rubber band trick where you wear a rubberband on your wrist. if you catch yourself doing it, snap the rubberband.

My brother sucked his thumb until like 15 and my mom got this NASTY tasting nail polish type stuff that you put on your nails and then whenever you put the finger in your mouth it tastes horrible.

You have to WANT to stop and you don't! It's pretty disgusting, especially at your age, ya know! You have delayed learning how to soothe yourself, the only way is for you to suffer through it and just STOP! Only YOU control YOU and what you do!

but something nasty on your thumb that u dont like

use the stuff on your nail whcih you use to stop biting nails.. you wont want to put your thumb in your mouth.

Wear gloves at night. If you have too duck tape them on.

Put hot sauce on your thumb, and you need to find other things that can comfort you, like teddy bear you can squeeze or a blanket with silk lining you can rub between your fingers. You could also tape your mouth shut at night.

Put something that tastes nasty on your thumb.
