I'm going to quit smoking tomorrow. Any good tips?!

Question: I am going to use the patch, but do you have any other good coping devices that worked well for you?

I quit 2 months ago. I've been cig-free for 3 weeks.

When you decide to quit, throw away all cigs, ashtrays, etc. When you wake up, jump in the shower instead of smoking. Listen to music in the car. Plan an active task for right after meals.

Basically...look for the circumstances under which you normally smoke, and motivate or distract yourself.

After the first week, you'll stop craving cigs as part of your routine. After 2 or 3 weeks...they'll start to lose their appeal altogether.

Don't hang out around other smokers when they light up. At least...not for a while. Research lung cancer, heart disease, premature again, and the relationship these things have with smoking.

If you do slip up and smoke, don't say "I failed," and start again. Say "I goofed," and get back to you non-smoker lifestyle. Eventually , the 3 slip-ups a week will become non-existent, you'll be able to run without wanting to die, and cigs will start to taste a little more gross.

Good Luck!!!

take 1 less cigarette every day or week

You told the world of virtual people you're going to quit. You need to declare it verbally to your friends and family so they can help you stay committed to your good cause! :)
Good luck.

This is stupid, but it really helped me. I would buy a pack of cigarettes everyday. So when I quit, I would take that $6 i would spend on cigarettes, and put it in an envelope everyday. After a month, I bought myself something nice and it made me feel good about quitting. I also chewed Nicorette, but it's expensive! Good luck!

When you feel the need to light up, chew some gum instead.

if u get past 3 days without smoking then ur good it will be easy after.

limit urself like the heroin addicts do for example(depending on how much you smoke):5 cigs a day, then slowly go down to 4 for after a week and then go down to 3 cigs then after a few weeks ull be down to 1 and then after that u wont need it any more... i think the nicotine patches or gum doesnt work or so i heard

TOOTHPICKS HELP AND A REAL DESIRE AND DETERMINATION

Good luck! It's great that you're quitting, I know how tough it can be, but the patch really does help.
One dumb trick my best friend and I used to do was whenever we'd feel the urge to light up, we'd spray on some smelly-good spray, and think about how glad we were that we weren't going to stink like cigarettes! Kinda stupid, but it helped curb the craving a little bit. : )

Perhaps the nicorette activestop program might help.

when my husband was in the process of quitting we had to keep the house stocked full of fruits and veggies so when he got that urge to smoke he would keep his hands busy by eating fruit. alot people tend to overeat so what better way to eat from boredom of not having the cig than healthy stuff. not everyone likes chewing gum, and actually gum can make you hungry.
i wish you luck because it's not always easy. my husband tried cold turkey, gum, then ended up taking chantex. it may be expensive but my god it worked in a month! only side effect he had from it was wierd dreams, and he was always thirsty. he started taking the medication in october had completely quit by middle of november and has had 2 cigs since just because of a bad night at work. everybody can slip up once in a while. keep us informed of how you are doing!
