How painful is a rootcanal?!

Question: Get a second opinion. Most dentists say you need one but you really don't. Make sure if you have any infection that it is totally gone. And remember that tooth will be very weak and brittle. My root canal lasted 4 years and now the tooth is completely gone.

Not as painful as your spelling of the words root canal.

Done right, absolutely painless. I had one done - no more discomfort than shaking hands with someone. No pain AT ALL!

Not painful at all! I had my first (and only) root canal a couple of years ago and I was petrified because of all the stories I'd heard. Well, state-of-the-art technology has made those horror stories a thing of the past. I went to a dentist who specialized in root canals and he had all kinds of computerized gadgets that made it totally pain-free and actually pleasant. I can honestly say that I've had manicures that hurt worse!

It doesn't hurt at all.

Had one performed on a dead tooth, no pain at all. Had one performed on a tooth with a live nerve and about kicked the doc in the nuts. Excruciating, even with numbing.

It sucks.. The take little needles and stick it over and over into the root of the tooth to kill the root. When they get to the bottom, sometimes novacaine doesn't do the job. Also it often takes more than one session. Supplemental pain medicine or valluim would be a good thing to take at a time like that... Best of luck

Oh! Super Painfull!!
Pain lasts at least 2 days.
Good luck on your root canal.

the most pain is to your pocketbook.

Like about 1000 for the root canal and a minimum of another 1000 for the crown.

ALSO, what the dentist forgets to tell you is the fact that root canals leave a tooth VERY weak and brittle. Root Canals also DON'T fix the problem.

The tooth that I spent the most money on it totally rotten and broken.

THAT is the PAIN of a root canal my friend. The actual proceedure is nothing.

Make sure you ask your dentist all these questions BEFORE you spend THOUSANDS for ONE tooth!!!!!!!!!!

I have had 2 or 3 and did not have any problem. I took ibuprofen a couple of times over 2 days each time. I have talked to other people who said they were very painful.

It's not pleasant to sit with your mouth open for so long, and to have people's hands in your mouth, but if you're properly anaesthetized, you shouldn't feel pain, only pressure. If you're really worried about this, you should speak to your dentist about some gas so you won't worry about it so much. Of course, it's not wise to drive home when you're under the influence of gas.

Not Painful At All!

When I go to the dentist I don't like to be deadened. I have a habit of cracking teeth when I go to sleep with a migraine headache. Anyway I have had fillings done, crowns done with no shoot. When I had a root canal done I had to stop when they started pulling on the nerve & have them inject deadening in the hole. Wasn't good for me, but do you really have any other choice?

It's horrible. Next to labor it's the worse!
