In the results of a urinalysis, what does BLD mean?!

Question: In the report I was given, the BLD is asterisked. It's 10/ul, but I can't find any information about what that means or what the normal range is.

Like the other responders said, it does stand for blood. But, if the test was run on a machine, that particular result actually checks for the iron content in your urine. Heme, the part of red blood cells that carries oxygen, is primarily made up on iron and iron is easier to check for than most other chemical components of red blood cells. So, if you eat a lot of red meat, or you take a multivitamin with iron and eat a fairly healthy diet, you'll spill some excess iron in your urine. A microscopic exam of your urine would let you know if you are actually passing blood cells in your urine. Check with your doc - it may have already been checked and found to be normal (no blood). Good luck.

Probably an abbreviation for blood. The asterisk is to draw attention to the fact. 10 parts per.

It's called hematuria, blood in urine, and it can mean a range of things from a urinary tract infection to kidney stones. Did you see a doctor?
