Many doctors now are puppets of the drug manufacturers.
It's a sad fact that the doctors today are not capable or don't have the time to figure out proper treatments. It's easier just to mask the problem with drugs and hope the patient stops complaining.

Yes many doctors are giving out way too many drugs. From pain killers to antibiotics. And it is our fault! So many patients just want to take a pill and make whatever go away. We are not demanding the explanations and education from our doctors that we deserve, but we are demanding drugs. The fact of the matter is that if a patient doesn't get what they want from a doctor they find a new doctor sooooo, doctors give us drugs to keep us happy. Narcotic pain killers, xanax, antidepressants, even unwarranted antibiotics. And all of these drugs have side effects and some are dangerous and addictive. Change society and this won't be a problem, until then demand care from your own doc not just drugs.

I haven't found that to be true, and anyone who takes pain meds for months on end, is doing that to themselves, especially if they are doctor shopping. They are already looking for drugs and just using doctors to get them.
I do need pain meds, and it can be hard enough to get them when I change doctors, they act like I could be an addict, despite the fact that I'm rarely ill, don't ask for the prescription to be increased or for more refills before their time.
My problems can be clearly seen on x rays and in a malformed joint without x rays, and, I'm a sixty year old white woman who looks more like Mrs. Santa Clause than a dope addict.

Physical depedent does occur when people are taking prescribe pain medication like vicodin, dilaudid, oxycodone, due to its opoid factor. Physician are not going to sit around and count how long a person is on the medication, they got way too many patients to actually realistically monitor that patient's physical or mental dependency. When you're in enough pain to cause you to seek a doctor, they gonna prescribe you opoid, nuff said. When they see that, maybe, you're not in so much pain, but now your body acts as if it needs the opoid regularly, a red flag goes up, and they wean you off the drug. Drug tolerance depends on the individuals taking it. In answering your question, no i do not think so. Physician might get some incentive in prescribing a brand over another brand, but that is about it. Opiod will cause dependency, thats all to it.

No- if a person has a legitimate reason for having to have pain medicine, I believe it is the person's choice to get the medicine. They could get something that is not addictive. And I am a chronic pain patient and I believe some people get to the point where they have to have it, but I have been on every pain medicine out there, and to my knowledge, the lower strength that you go as far as narcotics, the better they are going to help. I have 5 herniated discs and one is pressing against my spinal cord amongst other things, and I also work in a factory where I am constantly moving. I do agree that if people do not work that they should be put on something that is not real strong. And I believe that there should be evidence, such as an x-ray or MRI to put them on narcotics. That is my opinion.

Are you kidding me??????????? The whole idea of pain management is just to make people legal junkies. Everyone is physically dependant on them , PERIOD, that has taken them for a month. And as far as saying, "Oh, I don't have a problem with it." let them skip one day and we will see if they have a problem. But you cannot give opiates to feed an addiction. Thisis a touchy subject. They are functioning junkies. BUT we have real pain. There is a incredible difference, but to differentiate those that use for the real pain and those looking to as one guy I know in pain management say, "I am sick of chasing the high." What high????????? They are damn pain pills and that is what they are for, but am I gonna say I wasn't a junkie, I would be insane to say different. But I didn't swallow them and think I was on mars. ANd methadone is not liquid HEROIN in any form. If a person is genuinely an addict and is taking this stuff to get high, Methadone at least keeps them out of jail, are they still drug addicts.....YES! And if they were not really bad prior to being on Suboxone or methadone, wait. They won't be able to live without it. You cannot skip a days dose of methadone, to do is to die. The thing is the whole pain management is a catch 22. YOU are always gonna need more especially if you work. Yea people that just sit around the house can stay on a steady dose for years! Anyone that says, "Oh I been on the same regiment for year." unload trucks for a living and see what happens. And Break-thru pain is WIthdrawal, but withdraw to the wrong person your an addict. Don't tell the methadone clinic your withdrawing, tell them your in break-thru pain. Dr's can prescribe suboxone but you have to go to a clinic to get methadone if your a junkie. LIE, lies and more lies. BUT!!!!!!!!!! the counselors that are advising you on your daily Methadone intake ARE NOT DOCTORS! What? Some of them wouldn't know what a Diluadid was if they held it in their hand. But, you can't give opiates to an addict. Addiction is a disease but you cannot treat it with conventional opiates? MEthadone and Suboxone is better?

If the Dr. thinks you have an issue, no fault of your own, but he can't keep giving you meds because of the increase, yea, your screwed. IT IS A BIG LIE! period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think doctors and everyone (Law enforcement,it is the STATE)gets a huge kickback when you walk into a methadone clinic. Its all about money. Tell your doctor your 3 80mg Oxycontins aren't working anymore and see what he will tell you. Oh you have a problem, because I did not tell you how to properly take this stuff. they withhold facts on this stuff on purpose. You can be stable on the stuff and skip days and take only as needed if you start out right. Once you start taking oxycodone, hydro will never work on you again, and much much more. Once you touch Heroin and use it, a pain pill is useless.THey do not give you enough information on it and a lot don't know themselves. And what do you think is gonna happen if a pain management person gets in a car wreck, SOMEONE HITS(Not their fault at all) them but they are still unconscience. And innocent.THey will TAKE your blood. When they find Oxycodone in that person and morphine, they can get a DUI. CAn I said. And than turned into the State and or their doc can drop them. And Doctors can give you Fentanyl patches! Fentanyl is 40 times stronger than heroin, have some nut roll that into a ball and eat it.....there deader than a doornail. BUT Fentanyl is safer?..... But not for you, safer for the doctor because it does not show up in conventional Law Enforcement drug tests! The LA Coroners office doesn't even test for Fentanyl.
Don't tell anyone your on anything, your job no one. Than there are the idiots in pain management that SELL their stuff to people to pay for their scripts or they just need the money. ANd BOY does this happen. This is how Methadone started killing people. If a real Heroin addict got there hands on a 40mg wafer they would save it for four days, they know better! THey would not take two at once and kill themselves, they know better! But methadone is dangerous?, yea if you sell it to a kid and say its like a Vicodin . NO one that took pills would have ever needed methadone, never heard of deaths on it prior to oxycontins have you??? Heroin addicts knew what to do with the stuff. Oxycontins took the regular pill taker into a junkie overnight. A dumb kid that popped a 80 OC thinks a 40mg METHADONE is like a Lorcet, I heard this.SO when the pill leaves your house, are you gonna control if some 16 year old kid takes it and mixes it with XANEX and DIES? And guess what medication is gonna get (Certainly not the Xanex, the most prescribed drug in the world and dangerous, drink a beer with a 2mg and walk I say)the blame or who. WE ALL PAY for it.

And one last thing. Society thinks there is a class of people that can handle pain pills and a class that cannot. IN other words, does anyone question a 70 year old lady when she get her Oxycontins filled?

Pain comes as physicial, emotional and psychological. However Doctors do not seem to have time to figure out what is really going on with the Patient. I read many questions on here like 'How can I get my Doc to prescribe Narcotics?' Or 'Can I buy X over the Internet, or in Mexico?' Then some people post 'stories' that are untruthful, but you know that yes the person is in PAIN, but their is more going on in their life than physicial pain. So because they are in a abusive marriage, are addicted to alchol, fallen out of love with another person, suddenly they have 'Back Pain'. They see the Doctor expecting some narcotic drug and are given a anti-inflammatory, so do not bother taking it. In Europe, you never walk in 'demanding' anything, because the Doc will throw you out! You see a Doc because you have a pain, he will ask you some questions, give you a physicial examination. At this point the Doc has a good idea, from the way you hold your body, the way you walk, the tone of voice, what you have already said, what answers you have given, your demeanour, if he is dealing with physicial pain, or emotional or psychological pain. Remember, they cannot measure pain, it is impossible. So the European Doc will start you on some treatment, say a anti-inflammatory and normal parcetamol. He will also do a blood work up and you return in one month to see him. At that point he will have the blood work up and blood tests reveal a lot about the health of the body. So if you have a infection, allergy or inflammation it will be spotted. If the blood comes back 'normal' then he will ask you a series of questions, which may seem stupid, like 'Does my office feel a bit cold to you?' Now depending on the answer you give to this stupid question he will know if you are on the drugs he prescribed four weeks ago. So you answer and then say 'The drugs did nothing for my pain' he will know that you are not being truthful. At that point he will either dismiss you or recommend you see another Doctor, if not PT, or Psychologist. Then you are placed in a position where you do as his says, or you get no further drugs. And so on it goes. Even if you are crying with persistent pain, he might do more bloods, x-ray, even MRI or Ultrasound, but until something shows you get zero. I found the opposite. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, take a daily anti-inflammatory drug, everyday for over 8 years and seldom popped a simple Paracetamol. It all went real painful in 2006, ended up in ER and was shoved all over the place, eventually they wanted to do explorative surgery, as all the tests except blood were normal, yet I was having 'bouts' of extreme pain, akin to kidney stones being passed. I surfed the internet, returned to my Doc three months later with a 'theory' he did and MRI and hey presto a prolapsed disc that was sitting on the nerve root. I returned for the results where my Doc said 'We are now talking long term pain medication' and stuck a Fentanyl Patch on me? So from non-narcotic drugs to Fentanyl overnight, my body did react! However I have FREE Medical Care, so the emphasis on the Doctors is to 'save' money. With Health Insurance, well it is not their money, or the taxpayers money but the Insurance Company money so spend, spend, spend and drugs, drugs and more drugs. I hope that helps?
