Do you know anyone who has chronic pain?!

Question: I've heard of people who've gotten into car accidents and are never the same. It sounds pretty scary. What is it like? Is it real? Does it go away?

I have three slipped discs (L4, L5 & S1) & have learned to live with the chronic pain, however sometimes it gets so intense I just can't stand it & can't block it out anymore. My ex-wife has fibromyalgia - the best way she described it o me was put this way: "You feel like your body does when you have the flu & you multiply that by 10." All her nerve endings are firing all the time -- an intense experience to say the least, only minorly controlled through medicines, massage, and physical therapy.

Yeah I do ............................. My wife and no I dont think she will go away !!!

are you talking about physical or physiological pain? keep in mind that everyone is different as far as the body and mind are concerned. i live with physical pain every day and i find it a lot easier to deal with than some of the physiological wounds i have. wasn't a car. i wish it had been though. you learn to cope and get on with your life or you don't. sometimes
it takes years. hope you never have to find out first hand.

i've been in an accident an my shoulder still hurts and it was 3 yrs ago. no real mental pain except some anxiety when a passing car is speeding so when a truck passes (i never had this fear before)
as for the chronic, i don't get pain after having some chronic. much more relaxed

6 years ago I had anti-reflux surgery.
I went to sleep that day bordering on obese. Able to eat any man under the table. I never felt full.
A really good job that I loved.
And NO pain.

I woke up that afternoon not only with surgical pain but another pain that I would have to live with daily for the rest of my life.
My oesphagus was damaged during surgery causing it to spasm, like cramping, every single time I ate, drunk or swallowed saliva. It was, is, like having a massive heart attack 24/7.
I also lost my abilty to ever eat normally again. EVER!
AND lost my job too.

I came out of hospital 10 days later, 13kg's lighter, with agonising pain, and no abilty to eat or drink.
Within a month I had lost 24kg's and suffered tearing pains if I tried to drink more than a small sip. So every 1.5 days I had to go to Casuality for 2 litres of IV fluids to stop me from actually dying.
Eventually a permanant feeding tube was put in place. Meaning I would now be fed via the stomach only. No more eating or drinking fror me.

For years I was bitter and angry. I constanly asked "Why me?" I even asked my Specialist Doctor to just let me die one day, after spending 7 weeks in hospital on lot's of machines.

Fast forward to now.

I still can not eat like everyone else.
I still have a feeding tube.
I have lost over 55kg's.
I am underweight.
I suffer chronic chest pain. This is controlled by Neurostimulation. I will send you to the website that tells you a lot more of what pain has done to me and what Neurostimulation is.

Wendy's story

I have to spend 3 days in hospital every 2 months, for life, to have my oesphagus and stomach stretched.
This has led to a physical addiction to pain killers. I hate the darn things in my body and system. More of that on this site, plus a video of what happens to me in hospital every 2 months.

But I am NO LONGER angry and bitter. I am resigned, although the hospital admissions I have had enough with long ago, that this is now my life and I need to just get on with it and accept it.
That was very hard though.

My pain and the damage caused in the surgery will never go away.

If your a married man you have chronic pain on top of your chronic pain, Amen men?
