Have you had a stress fracture from running?!

Question: If the answer is no, please just say "no", get your 2 points and move on.

If you are a medical doctor or if you have had a stress fracture please read the details below. I want some opinions and information from those with experience in having sfx (stress fractures) or from a doctor of course.

I think I might have a stress fracture. My husband thinks that I shouldn't go to the doctors because it will be a waste of time and money. I'm not sure what to do.

Pain Location: Right shin, on the inside and most of the pain is in a two inch area in the middle of my leg. If I push on it, it feels like a very server bruise (yet not discoloration). If I do not have any pressure on my leg and I'm moving my foot around there is no additional pain. If I stand on my leg or put pressure to my leg, that area aches and throbs.

more details to come...

It could be a stress fracture. I'd play it safe and go to the doctor. If you don't, and it is a stress fracture, it could get worse. I had a stress fracture at the ischial tuberosity on the left side of my pelvis. I didn't pay enough attention to it thinking that it was just a side effect of becoming more active. 10 weeks later when I finally decided to consult a doctor, the stress fracture had worsened to become an actual fracture (the only reason I know it was once a stress fracture is from the bone scan that they performed). Anywho, my suggestion is for you to get checked out. Good luck!

Sounds like shin splints. Ice them to dull the pain. You can do exercises to strengthen the muscle over the shin to avoid their reoccurence. I had them in high school for three years. That was 20+ years ago. After working out they never reoccured. A physical therapist can give you some good ideas on how to avoiid them in the future. Good Luck!

no i havent. thank god.

First thing to do is to go to the casualty dept and they will xray it, without that we cannot make an accurate diagnosis. If you describe all your symptoms in detail and include the timescale and insist on x rays from different aspects then they wont overlook anything. One you have these answers, there is no point in worrying or speculating. It could even be a foot injury but i would have that done asap if i was you. Take a good book and some food and drink with you, it could be a long wait depending on your choice of hospital.
